Petrol in a Diesel Car in Aughnacloy: What Happens Now

Whatever you do, never switch your motor on, even briefly, to move the vehicle. Stop; leave it off. Has not been run? Then petrol in a diesel tends to be a straightforward drain-and-flush job wherever your vehicle has stopped — and nothing decides that as much as these next few minutes do. Here is the order of things from now, anywhere you are around Aughnacloy.

Petrol in a diesel, engine off — the first minute

Go through the following in sequence, first.

  • Pull your keys out. Even your ignition by itself can prime the system, pulling petrol out of the tank to exactly the parts it damages, and so leave the vehicle alone completely.
  • Topping up with diesel sounds like it dilutes the issue. It does not: nothing gets out, and your tank just holds more of the same.
  • Near moving traffic? Then your hazards come on before anything else, and so your car is easy to spot.
  • Off the pump by hand. On a forecourt, get the attendants to help you roll it clear of the pump. Don't fire it up to move it, however short the distance.
  • Which fuel, and roughly how much? Your receipt replies that, and that is where our questions start. Do not bin it.

Realised on the move? Get off at the next junction if you are on the M77, over 50 miles from Aughnacloy, and stop somewhere safe — not at the services further on. Stage one comes after that.

The fork in every Aughnacloy fuel drain: has it run yet?

One answer is what everything after this point depends on.

If it has never been started:

  • The petrol is still inside your tank and nowhere else.
  • Where the car sits is normally where this work happens: a drain, then a flush.
  • This is the best position to be in, and the reason step one counts.

Motor run, even briefly?

  • Out of the tank, past the filter, into the fuel lines: that's how far that petrol has got.
  • On a longer run it has reached your high-pressure pump and your injectors.
  • Miles is what turns it into a larger job: the lines flushed, a filter seen to, and at times more than that.

Petrol doesn't lubricate. Diesel does, oiling the high-pressure pump and injectors as it flows through, which is why the line sits where it does. In that tank, left alone, petrol does no harm. As soon as it's pumped, petrol starts grinding whatever moves it.

Aughnacloy, petrol in a diesel: have these ready before you call

A technician that circles versus a technician that finds you: a little planning is what separates them.

  • BT69 6 plus the remainder of the postcode is the best way to start telling us where you are.
  • Name the road — Heugh Road or wherever you have stopped — or the car park.
  • Name a car park by what it serves — the one outside the local shops, for example — and it's far quicker to find.
  • That it's a diesel, along with the make and model of your car.
  • Tell us which was put in — petrol or AdBlue — since AdBlue is a different job, with a page of its own for Aughnacloy.
  • How much. Litres from the receipt, or how long the nozzle was in.
  • Whether it's run. Then if it has, how far plus how heavily.
  • The owner may have to approve this work under some hire or company contracts — so it's faster to settle whose car it is before we arrive.

Call 0333 366 0103 once you've got that ready — or, if your car is at home, going nowhere, use .

Aughnacloy fuel drain on its way? Whilst you wait

The wait is where kindly meant help does the harm. Stick to these.

  • Where the car has stopped settles where you wait. Somewhere exposed: away from it, away from the traffic. Safe: with it. Either way, safety ahead of the car.
  • A helpful passer-by doesn't fire it up. Nor does anybody wanting to check it still does the trick, or moving it a couple of yards.
  • Something from your boot, oil made for two-strokes or injector cleaner: no additive lifts that petrol.
  • No DIY clearing. Siphoning petrol into a can at the kerbside is dangerous, and it leaves the fuel that has by now gone beyond the tank.
  • The ignition stays off. Even for the radio or the windows.

Step by step: your fuel drain when the van arrives

  • Fuel, volume, whether it has run: those replies set the job, and that's why you get a price after them rather than before.
  • Clearing it is how that mixture gets taken out of the tank.
  • Flushing the lines comes next, since a motor that ran has petrol past the tank, in your lines themselves.
  • Where the vehicle has a serviceable filter, it is swapped; if not, cleared.
  • Priming comes after clean diesel is in.
  • Our technicians fire it up only after clean diesel has gone in and primed your system, then confirm that it's running correctly.

Until it runs on fresh diesel, our engineers stay with it. Long-term damage is very rare when it has been noticed quickly, so the car can go right back to normal driving.

Aughnacloy, after your fuel drain: back on the road

  • Started on clean diesel, it asks nothing special of you. Simply drive normally.
  • Keep an eye on the first miles. A warning light, smoke, a lumpy idle or a flat spot under the throttle tells you to pull over and ring us back.
  • Hold on to your documents. A hire company, a fleet manager or an insurer may ask what was done.
  • Check the label on the pump next time, not the colour of the handle.
