Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Belgrano?
Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, across Belgrano and the rest of Conwy. The first thing to do is not to start the engine. When the engine has not yet run and the fuel is still inside the tank, a fuel drain is almost always all it requires, and the coming few minutes determine that, not how much got in. Call us before anything else happens, and you'll hear what happens after that.
What to do first about petrol in a diesel
- As you drive, the pump and the injectors wear down. That's why you never crank it, and why you don't believe it once it has started. The catch about petrol in a diesel especially — the part drivers get wrong — is that it pulls away happily for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor generally won't run at all, which stops the driver and stops the harm with them. This one lets you keep going.
- Diesel ignites, and before it ignites it protects — the injection pump, its injectors. Petrol does only the burning. So leave the car's ignition alone as well: flicking it on is often sufficient to prime that system, and priming moves petrol from that tank into precisely those parts.
- Topping up gets rid of nothing. It gives you a bigger tank of the same mixture, because a diesel fuel system will not cope with petrol by percentage in the way that guidance suggests — so don't tip diesel on top to dilute it. Grade is beside the point too: super unleaded is petrol.
- Our team would sooner travel to a difficult spot than have it started — so if you safely can, sit tight. Nothing is easier to sort than a motor that has never shifted. On the verge on Rhos Fawr, that means hazards on and keep the vehicle.
- Get your location prepared before you ring. A postcode beginning LL22 9 and whatever is next to you with a label on it is the difference between the van turning up and the van circling.
- Phone 0333 366 0103. Say what was put in, about how much, plus if your car has started. These three facts decide your whole visit.
At a forecourt: clearing petrol from the diesel
Most of the work begins at the pump, so a fair share of it gets completed there. Our technicians work on petrol station forecourts all the time, with the owner's agreement, and so if you're still at Shell that's normally where the drain gets done.
Nowhere else but a forecourt can this be spotted with your motor still cold. Fuel drawn out of your tank and through the fuel filter, right to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what occurs when the engine is started and your car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the driveway or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush takes in the filter and your lines along with that tank. That is still not a catastrophe, and we put it right where your car stands. What settles it is whether the ignition was turned in the seconds after your receipt was read.
The staff will generally help you move the vehicle away from the pump so the next customer can get past. That's worth doing. Four vehicle lengths is not worth the risk.
Tell us this much and we can work with it: a diesel Renault Megane, a couple of litres of unleaded in it, two miles or so, turned off at Co-op Food now. Time gone by is not the thing we need. Fuel sucked by the pump is.
How far, and how hard? The second of those counts more than the first, so have both prepared. The Skoda Octavia will have felt completely ordinary on the way back from the local primary school — they all do, and that is the catch. Diesel into a petrol motor mostly won't run at all: the motorist stops, and so does the damage. Petrol into a diesel starts, ticks over, drives off like nothing happened, whilst the high-pressure fuel pump gets on with its work minus the protection your fuel should be giving it. No warning arrives, as behind the wheel nothing looks wrong.
What our technicians will want to know is whether the run there was short and chilly, since that's where petrol is least likely to burn properly — and what doesn't burn can slip past the piston rings then into the oil. Right up to the moment someone drives it home, a diesel Peugeot 308 standing in the parking area at The Yacht holding a tank of petrol in it is a simple job. Nothing degrades while it waits, and so leave the car there overnight then phone first thing.
Leave the Audi A3 near Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre then call us. We are direct about not driving on since a worn-out pump gives off, and what it sheds moves on with the fuel to the fuel injectors downstream.
A throttle gone soft, white smoke, a ragged idle, knocking: that is a misfilled diesel BMW 1 Series telling you what is wrong. Don't restart it to find a better location — turn off where you have stopped, by Otter or anywhere else.
Coverage around Belgrano
The same trips get us to Pensarn, Abergele, Towyn, Kinmel Bay and St George as well as Belgrano, which is a coastal village.
If yours is not on the list it does not mean we don't come — there are pages for the majority of places around Conwy, and the ones mentioned above are merely the closest neighbours. Close to the boundary, or somewhere your phone can't find? Ring us to ask rather than assuming.
The map shows the patch the page spans. We operate by the road, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks across all of that, and the car does not need to come to us.
Roadside stops around Belgrano
Not everybody gets a safe place to stop. A common call for us rather than an odd one: worked out after setting off, finished up by the verge of Y Ddôl or in a lay-by with the hazard lights flashing.
Whether you wait by your car or keep away from it turns on if staying nearby looks wise. Never fire up the engine to nurse it somewhere handier — a diesel running on petrol will frequently oblige, and every mile it obliges for is drawing the mixture further into the system. Carrying on causes the vehicle far more harm than a technician driving out to a tricky spot, and that's no trouble for us.
Run it already? Pull over, then read this
The local Moreton Spur is the one which counts now, and lies under 25 miles from Belgrano. A loss of power, a rough idle, smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, rather than a tidy stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will frequently get you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.
Take the first junction that is sensible, pull up there, and don't start it to move it. Long drive? Anything close to the under 10 miles to the nearest city and you should assume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it arrived at by the petrol. Say that on the call, as it affects what goes in the van.

What follows when we reach you around Belgrano
- We ask first, price after. What went in? How much? Has the motor run? Those answers change what the work really is.
- We empty the tank of the polluted fuel.
- Fuel lines are purged through and your filter cleared, leaving nothing in the system that started any of this.
- Priming follows, once clean diesel is in.
- Your engine is started and checked to confirm it runs correctly on new diesel.
Then it's ready to pull away. Everything is done where your car is, so it never needs to go to a garage, and when it has been caught early, long-term damage is very unusual.
AdBlue in your diesel tank instead, in Belgrano?
AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — your motor remains off — whereas this problem underneath it's a distinct one altogether. Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and strips out the lubrication the fuel system depends on. Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes rust and build-up.
Both are ours. There is a separate Belgrano page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.
Belgrano prices for a petrol-in-diesel drain
What shifts the price is listed below, because the job isn't one job and our technicians cannot truthfully put a single number on this page.
- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.
- Wrong fuel in, against what your tank holds — that proportion.
- The type of fluid in the tank, unleaded or AdBlue.
- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there's safe for a van.
Tell us what your vehicle is, how much got in, and whether the engine has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range. Not pressing, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then works.
Belgrano drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel
I am on a forecourt around Belgrano. Can you drain the car on the spot?
A fair part of this work takes place there, so yes. Regularly, provided the site consents: Asda, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that location is something our technicians answer straight away.
Is there a sensible quantity of petrol in a diesel?
Litres are not the yardstick. Ratio is, and far more than either, it matters if anything has been run. What settles how much work is required is whether that mix has been drawn through the system — because although five litres in an almost empty tank is a different situation from five in a full one, either way that is the query.
Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it
Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and keep it off. Driving is what takes the trouble from the tank into the pump and injectors — but it is salvageable a lot more regularly than drivers expect, and the single most useful thing you can do now isn't restart the car.
My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?
A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a correct standard, which is no alteration at all. Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one.
Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?
What petrol has weakened is not put back by two-stroke oil, which is an old remedy for a different issue. So no. Later on? Still petrol in your tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.
A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — necessary?
Wherever your car is, our technicians drain and clean it there, so a visit to the main dealer doesn't come into it.
Still with the vehicle?
The engine stays off.
Turn it off somewhere safe and keep it off, if you have already driven it. Cold and parked, a car is in the best position available — and drivers fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.
