Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Blackpark?
With the tank still holding the petrol and the engine not yet started, nearly every job requires only a drain, so keep the motor off. That outcome is settled in the minutes straight after filling up, rather than by the amount that went in. Throughout Blackpark and the rest of Highland, Petrol in Diesel drains the car and cleans it where it stands, whether at a roadside, on a drive or at a forecourt. Our engineers can tell you what the following stage will be. Ring us — it happens ahead of anything else.
The next five minutes: petrol in a diesel
- Never start the vehicle — and don't trust it if it does start. Here is the part people have wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. A petrol motor fed diesel normally just can't run, so the driver stops and the wear halts with them. A diesel fed petrol usually starts, idles and drives away just fine for a couple of miles. It is not fine. It is grinding your fuel system whenever you drive.
- Leave the car's ignition be also. Diesel has two tasks: it ignites, and before it burns it protects the high-pressure pump and those injectors. Petrol does the first and not the second. Turning your ignition on is usually all it takes to prime the system, which moves the petrol out of the tank then into exactly those components.
- Never pour diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system won't handle petrol by percentage the way that guidance implies, and topping up clears nothing — it merely hands you a larger tank of the same mixture. The type makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.
- We would sooner drive to an odd spot than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay still. Nothing is quicker to deal with than a motor that hasn't shifted. On the verge on Cùl a' Chùirn, that means hazards on then keep it.
- Have your position prepared before you call. A postcode starting IV49 9 and whatever is closest to you with a sign on it is the difference between the van arriving and a van circling.
- What got in, approximately how much, and whether your car has fired — these three details shape your whole call-out. Call 0333 366 0103 and tell us.
Clearing petrol from a diesel on the forecourt
Forecourts are where the job often kicks off, and where a fair portion of that closes. We work on garage forecourts routinely, with the site's consent, and so if you're still at Asda that's normally where the drain takes place.
Before your engine has run — the forecourt is the one place it is spotted. Anywhere else — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — your car was started and driven to get there, which means fuel was pulled from that tank, through the filter then into your high-pressure pump. That is not a calamity, and we can still deal with it where it is. It does mean your lines and your filter need cleaning as well as that tank, and that is determined by the few seconds between checking your receipt and reaching for your key.
Out from the petrol pump, the next motorist can get past — so yes, let the attendants help you move the vehicle. Well worth it. Four car lengths is not worth the risk.
We'll come out to you, clear your tank, clean the fuel lines then put fresh diesel in so you can drive away. So if petrol went into the diesel Renault Clio in Blackpark and you are stranded at Co-op Food with a boot loaded with shopping, call us — and do not crank it again to exit that spot. A mile or so at gentle throttle uses very little diesel, which is why these tend to be the easy ones.
What our technicians will want to know is whether the drive there was brief and cold, as that's where petrol is slowest to burn correctly — and anything that does not burn can get past the rings and into the sump. Right up to the moment somebody drives it home, a diesel Nissan Qashqai parked in the parking area at Gabbro Bar with a tank full of petrol in it is a simple job. Nothing deteriorates while it stands, and so leave it there overnight and call us in the morning.
Here's the whole mechanism. Diesel needs enough body to seal the close clearances it goes through, and petrol takes that away. That is it. Which accounts for the usual Suardal Forrest call — a diesel Mercedes C-Class, out there without complaint and back down on power, uneven at idle, maybe a bit of smoke. Injection systems work hydraulically as well as chemically, so your fuel has to hold pressure and not just burn; weakened, it bleeds past those gaps rather than building, and delivery comes poorer, later, less even than your engine was designed about. Not a failing motor, though. Fuel that has stopped acting like diesel. Put that right and it stops.
Clearing the Dacia Duster, changing your filter where there's a workable one, cleaning the lines, putting fresh fuel through the whole system: that is this job, and it's shaped by the worst of it sitting in the fuel lines rather than in your tank by this point. Three things help when you ring from near Broadford ROC Post — which side the filler is on, whether our van can park beside without blocking the road, and whether the engine has run since you filled up. On-street is the most common place we work, and so the place itself is seldom the issue. A tight parking bay beats a car driven somewhere more handy.
Your filter, the lines, the pump and its rail: that's where the blend is once a diesel has run, and it doesn't come back out with that tank contents. So your tank is not where most of the damage rests by this point, and a diesel Citroen C3 that made it by Broadford Village Hall needs the circuit flushed rather than emptied.
Blackpark plus the areas next to it
As a residential suburb, Blackpark sees a frequent call, whilst the villages close by come along on that same round: Limepark and Harrapool, Broadford and Corry, Waterloo.
Our technicians do come. The places above are only the nearest neighbours, and a page is there for most towns around Highland, so an absence from the list is not an absence from our coverage. Near a border, or somewhere a satnav can't find? Call us to check instead of guessing.
The area this page includes is on our map. Our technicians work roadside, at forecourts, on driveways and in car parks across all of it, and your vehicle doesn't need to move to us.
Stuck at the kerbside in Blackpark
Not everyone gets the opportunity to pull in anywhere sensible. A normal call for us instead of a rare one: realised after setting off, ended up by the verge beside Sràid Uilleim Rois or in a lay-by with the hazard lights on.
Sit beside the vehicle while it is sensible to wait in it, yet clear of the car when it isn't. Do not fire up your motor to limp the car somewhere handier — a diesel running on petrol will often oblige, and every mile it obliges for is dragging that mixture further into your fuel system. However inconvenient the location, it's no bother for us to get to it, and that is far better for your car than pressing on.
Petrol in a diesel, and the car has gone
over 50 miles out of Blackpark, your M9 is what counts here. A drop in power, a lumpy idle, some smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, instead of a tidy stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will usually take you onto it and some way along before anything seems wrong at all.
The first safe exit is the one to take. Switch off there, then leave the restarting alone. It alters what our technicians bring, and so mention it when you call: on a longer trip — anything approaching the over 50 miles to the closest city — assume the petrol has been through the fuel filter, your pump and the fuel injectors.
Where's Blackpark?
Blackpark is a small suburban area situated on the coast of Highland, Scotland, with an elevation of around 20 metres. Blackpark lies near several other communities, including Limepark, Harrapool, and Broadford, and is located approximately 64 miles from Inverness. Blackpark is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock and a population of around 514 residents. Blackpark is also relatively distant from major cities, with London being around 459 miles away.
Our visit around Blackpark, step by step
- Our engineers ask first, quote after. What went in? How much? Has the motor run? Those replies shape what the work actually is.
- Our engineers drain the tank of the contaminated mixture.
- Fuel lines are rinsed through and your filter cleared, leaving nothing in the system that started any of this.
- The fuel system gets bled, on fresh diesel.
- It's fired up with clean diesel in it, and our technicians make sure that it is running smoothly.
The vehicle is then ready for you to pull away. Long-term damage is very rare when it has been noticed early, and since everything is done where the vehicle is, it never has to be taken to a workshop.
Blackpark AdBlue removal is a different job
AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the opening rule is unchanged — the engine remains off — whereas this fault under it's a distinct one altogether. The lubrication a fuel system depends on is taken away by petrol, which weakens your diesel. AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with the diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus build-up.
Frequently the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Blackpark page. Both are ours to handle.
Blackpark costs for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain
One number wouldn't be honest here, because this is not one job. These are the things that change it:
- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.
- How much of the wrong fuel went in, judged against how much the tank holds.
- Which got in: petrol or AdBlue.
- Whether our van can safely get to the car and work on it, which depends on where the car is.
Tell us your car, the quantity and if it has run, and you'll get a straight answer rather than a range. If it is not time-critical — the car is at home and going nowhere — works too.
Petrol in diesel: common queries around Blackpark
At a petrol station in Blackpark, can you do a fuel drain there?
Yes — forecourts are where a fair share of this happens. Often, provided the site agrees: another forecourt nearby, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether we can work in that place is something our engineers answer straight away.
How much petrol is too much for a diesel?
Whether your motor has run counts a lot more, though the ratio matters too, instead of the litres. Five litres in an almost empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that determines how much work is required is if that mix has been drawn through the system.
Already driven it with petrol in the diesel? What then?
Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that. Driving moves the trouble along — out of the tank, into your pump and injectors. Drivers fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely helpful thing left to you is not restarting the vehicle.
My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?
No. Carried out correctly, clearing and flushing is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it. An argument over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.
Two-stroke oil in that tank, and then home?
No. It belongs to a distinct fault from a different era, and petrol has thinned something no oil of that kind replaces. That tank still has petrol in it later, and your pump still has to put up with it.
A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — essential?
There's no need to bring it to a franchised dealer, since our engineers drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.
You, and your vehicle, still together?
Never turn it back on.
Turn it off somewhere safe then leave it off, if you have already driven it. This is recoverable from far more commonly than motorists assume, and a parked, cold car is the best position to be in.
