Petrol in a Diesel Car in Bond End
Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled vehicles where they are, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway, all over Bond End and the remainder of Staffordshire. The first thing to do is not to start your engine. While the engine has not been started and the fuel is still in your tank, a fuel drain is nearly always all it takes, and the coming few minutes determine that, not how much went in. Ring us before everything else starts, and you will learn what follows after that.
What to try first about petrol in a diesel
- Whenever you drive, the pump and your injectors wear. That's why you don't fire it up, and why you don't trust it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel specifically — the bit people get wrong — is that it drives off fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine typically won't run at all, which stops the driver and stops the harm with them. This one lets you carry on.
- Flicking the ignition on commonly primes the system, and priming is what moves petrol out of that tank then into your pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps greased on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol manages the burning and none of the lubricating. Leave your ignition off.
- Don't put diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system will not tolerate petrol by percentage in the way that guidance implies, and topping up clears nothing — it merely leaves you a bigger tank of the same mixture. The grade makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.
- Stay put if it's safe to. Hazards on, ignition off, keep the car. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Bond Street, anywhere — a tricky location for us is better than a started diesel, and nothing is quicker for us to handle than a vehicle that never shifted.
- Before you phone, work out your location. Anything closest to you with a name on it, plus a postcode starting DE14 3 — that is what settles whether our van shows up or circles.
- Phone 0333 366 0103. Say what was put in, about how much, and also if the motor has run. These three replies settle the full call-out.
Never drive it home. Petrol-thinned diesel has gone through that injection pump in real volume on the way in, and the drive back would roughly double that for nothing at all. Phone — the platform is okay. There's no need to stand over that Renault Megane at Burton-On-Trent while the work gets done, and we'd much rather speak to you tonight than discover on Monday.
Petrol in the Volkswagen Passat, and it takes diesel? Shopping in the boot, you outside Lidl, somewhere in Bond End? Then phone us, and leave the engine out of it — not even to get out of the space. Somebody heads your way. Tank drained, fuel lines rinsed, new diesel in, and home you go. Light throttle over a mile pulls very little, and so these tend to be the simple ones.
Chance the trip home from Leopard Inn? No. It will start and it will move off quite happily, which is the trouble — a diesel on a weakened tank runs usually whilst grinding the components your fuel should be protecting. Park the Nissan Qashqai and phone us.
Your pump rests upstream of the injectors, and so whatever a worn one gives off passes downstream with the fuel — which is why we are direct about not driving on. Call us, and leave your diesel Peugeot 3008 where it's close to The Octagon Centre.
Put right and starting are not the same thing, and the difference is the system: our technicians flush it, and take the filter off where there's a workable one. Compare that with the certain advice you'll get — drain it, refill with clean diesel. Half true. Do precisely that to a diesel Audi A6 near Anchor and it will start, which is exactly why the tip sounds reasonable. Then your engine pulls the petrol left behind in the filter, and in the feed lines, straight back through your pump, as draining a tank does nothing whatever about fuel that has already left it. Call us instead.
Can petrol be taken out of your diesel on a forecourt?
Most of the job begins at a forecourt, so a fair share of that is finished on site. Still at Shell? Then that's normally where it happens. Petrol station forecourts are everyday for us, with the consent of the site.
A filling station is the single location the mistake gets caught before your motor has run. Anywhere else — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was started and moved to get there, which means fuel was drawn from your tank, through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump. That is not a catastrophe, and our technicians can still put it right where it sits. It does mean your lines and your filter need cleaning as well as your tank, and that's decided by the few seconds between seeing the till receipt and going for the key.
Away from the pump, the next driver can get by — so yes, let the attendants help you roll the car. Well worth doing. Starting it to roll four car lengths is not.
Do we reach your end of Bond End?
As a residential suburb, Bond End has a regular call, whilst the areas close by go with it on that same run: Burton upon Trent and Stapenhill, Little Burton and Shobnall, Branston.
Not on this list? It means nothing. The places above are simply the nearest few, and most places across Staffordshire have a page of their own somewhere on our site. Ring us and check rather than assuming, especially where you're on a border or somewhere the satnav struggles with.
Look at our map for the ground shown here. Our technicians work by the road, on forecourts, on driveways and in car parks throughout all of it, and the car does not need to move to us.
Stopped at the kerbside somewhere in Bond End?
A chance to pull over anywhere sensible does not fall to everybody. A common call for us and not a rare one: worked out after setting off, finished up on the verge of Lichfield Street or in a lay-by with the hazard lights going.
Out of the car if it's not sensible to be in it, by it when it is. Don't start it up to reach a safer spot. It will go — a diesel on petrol usually obliges — and each mile of obliging drags that blend deeper into your fuel system. However difficult the location, it's no problem for us to get to it, and that is a lot better for your car than carrying on.
So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel after some miles
under 10 miles out of Bond End, your M42 is what counts now. Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfilled diesel will often manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is rarely a neat stop. Power falls away, your idle goes uneven, and there may be some smoke.
Do not restart it to move it. Get off at the next safe exit then switch off. On a longer trip — anything close to the under 15 miles to the nearest city — take it the petrol has been through the filter, the pump and your injectors, and tell us when you call. It affects what we bring.

What our engineers do when our engineers reach you in Bond End
- Three things get checked before any price — your fuel that went in, the quantity, and if anything has been run since. Each answer alters the work.
- The polluted mixture comes from your tank.
- What is left in the fuel system shouldn't be what started the issue, so your fuel lines get rinsed and the fuel filter cleaned.
- We pour clean diesel in and bleed your system.
- It is run with clean diesel in it, and our engineers make sure that it is running properly.
Your car is then ready for you to pull away. There is no need for a workshop at any stage, as the work is all done where the vehicle is, and when it's noticed quickly, long-term damage is very rare.
AdBlue in a diesel tank in Bond End is a different job
Do not fire it up: that first rule stands whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the problem itself. Weakened diesel, and no lubrication left for the system that depends on it. That's petrol. AdBlue is urea in water, and in a diesel tank it leads to corrosion and build-up in its place.
Both are ours. There's a separate Bond End page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.
Bond End costs for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain
Our technicians cannot put one number on this page frankly, as the job isn't one job. What moves it:
- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.
- Wrong fuel in, against what your tank takes — that ratio.
- Whether it's unleaded or AdBlue.
- Where the car is, and if a van can safely reach and work on it.
A straight answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: the vehicle, the amount, and if it has run. If it is not urgent — the vehicle is at home and going nowhere — works too.
Bond End drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel
I'm on a forecourt around Bond End. Can you drain the car on the spot?
A large portion of this work happens there, so yes. Tell us which one you are at when you ring and we'll tell you whether our engineers can work there. With the owner's permission our engineers visit Tesco and the other forecourts locally all the time.
How much petrol in a diesel is too much?
Whether the engine has run counts far more, though the proportion matters too, instead of the litres. A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different scenarios, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if the fuel system has had that blend pulled through it.
I put petrol in my diesel and drove it. Now what?
Turn off somewhere sensible, then keep it that way after you stop. Not restarting it is the single most useful thing available to you now. Driving does move the trouble out of your tank and into your pump and injectors, yes, and it remains salvageable much more regularly than drivers fear.
Will a fuel drain void my warranty?
It's not a modification, so a drain then flush carried out correctly doesn't invalidate a manufacturer's warranty. A disagreement over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.
Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home
What petrol has thinned isn't restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old workaround for a separate issue. So no. The pump still has to live with it, as your tank still has petrol in it after that.
A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — essential?
Wherever the vehicle is, we drain and clean it there, so a drive to the main dealer does not come into it.
Is your vehicle still with you?
Do not switch the engine back on.
If you have already driven the car, pull in somewhere sensible, turn it off and leave it off. A still, cold vehicle is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from far more frequently than drivers fear.
