Petrol in Diesel

Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Brymbo?

If you have not turned on your engine as yet, don't. A drain and nothing else is almost always what a vehicle needs while the fuel is still sitting in the tank and the engine has not been started, which is why it's the next few minutes that matter, not how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel travels to your car wherever it has stopped in Brymbo or the remainder of Wrexham, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, and drains and flushes it there. Just one call to us will be sufficient: we shall tell you what follows from here. Make this right away.

Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

  • Whenever you drive, your pump and your injectors wear down. That's why you never crank it, and why you never trust it once it has started. The trick about petrol in a diesel especially — the bit drivers get wrong — is that it drives off happily for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor usually will not run at all, which stops the driver and stops the damage with them. This one lets you carry on.
  • Two things, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps the injection pump and injectors greased. Petrol only manages the one. That is why your ignition is left off too — flick it on and you usually prime that system, and that is petrol leaving your tank for just those parts.
  • That guidance supposes a diesel fuel system accepts petrol by percentage. It will not. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you end with is a larger tank of the same mixture. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is still petrol.
  • Our team would much rather get to an odd place than have it started — so if you safely can, sit tight. Nothing is quicker to deal with than a car that has never shifted. On the verge on Ael Y Bryn, that means hazards on then leave it.
  • Before you phone, have your location. Anything closest to you with a name on it, plus a postcode beginning LL11 5 — that is what settles whether our van turns up or circles.
  • Dial 0333 366 0103. Tell us what was put in, roughly how much, and if the motor has run. Those three facts determine the whole call-out.

Draining petrol from your diesel on the forecourt

Forecourts are where this work often begins, and where a large chunk of it ends. Still at Shell? Then that is generally where it happens. Station forecourts are routine for us, with the consent of the owner.

At a garage, it gets stopped with your motor never started, and no place else does that. We can still deal with it where it stands, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a drive or in a lay-by, your car has been started and moved there, and that pulled fuel through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump, all the way from that tank. None of that is a calamity, though the flush then has to reach past that tank to your lines and the filter, and the few seconds between checking the till receipt and going for the keys are what decide that.

Out from the pump, the next driver can get by — so yes, let the staff help you push the vehicle. Well worth it. Starting it to move four vehicle lengths isn't.

Mobile fuel drain van at a diesel car in Brymbo

Simple, these ones, and the reason is the distance: a mile at easy throttle draws very little diesel. Petrol into a diesel Skoda Octavia somewhere in Brymbo, a boot full of shopping, and you stuck outside Lidl — phone us. Exiting that spot is not worth another start. Your tank gets cleared where it sits, your fuel lines flushed, new diesel in, and you get home.

Nothing alerts you, since from behind the wheel there is nothing to be warned about. The diesel BMW 3 Series will have seemed completely ordinary on the way back from the local primary school, and they all do — which is the trap with petrol in a diesel instead of the reverse. Diesel in a petrol vehicle mostly refuses to run, stopping the driver and stopping the harm with them. Petrol in a diesel starts, idles, drives off as though nothing had happened, and all the while your pump works without the protection its fuel is supposed to supply. Tell us approximately how far, and how hard. The harder counts more.

Straightforward job, this one — till somebody takes it home. A diesel Audi A4 left outside Clayton Arms with petrol in the tank loses nothing by sitting there overnight, so leave the car then ring us once it's light. Expect a question about that drive there, though. Short and cold is precisely where petrol struggles to burn, and what will not burn can slip past the rings then into the oil.

Diesel has to be heavy enough to seal the close-fitting parts it passes through, and petrol weakens it. That's the entire process, and it explains the ordinary Moss Valley Golf Course call: a diesel Mercedes C-Class that went out there without fuss and came back down on power, rough at idle, possibly smoking a little. A diesel injection system works hydraulically as well as chemically — it needs the fuel to hold pressure, not only to burn — so when the fuel weakens, pressure that should build and stay built starts escaping past tolerances instead, and the engine gets a poorer, later, less even delivery than it was designed round. None of that is the motor failing, which is the bit worth hearing: it's your fuel no longer behaving like diesel, and it stops when your fuel is put right.

Hire car? Company car? Call them before us. Some contracts want the firm to sign off the work, and that is much quicker dealt with up front than later on. Then phone us about the Ford Kuga, the diesel one, close to Stori Brymbo. Do not worry that you can't say how full that tank was — almost nobody can two days into a vehicle, and it's something we work out on the spot. The reason for asking: damage from petrol in a diesel is a matter of share. A few litres in an almost empty tank make a far stronger mixture than in a full one, and petrol is built to resist the very thing a diesel needs of that, which is igniting when compressed. Stronger mix, more rattling, more smoke, flatter throttle.

Brymbo and the areas near it

Mount Sion, Mount Zion, Moss, Ffos-y-go, Windy Hill — all of those on our trips that carry us over to Brymbo itself, a rural village.

Our technicians still come. Those names above are merely the immediate neighbours, and a page exists for the majority of towns around Wrexham, so an absence from the list is not an absence from the coverage. Contact us to enquire rather than guessing — boundaries above all, and wherever a satnav may struggle with.

Check our map for the patch included on this page. Kerbside, forecourt, drive, car park: every bit of it is ground our engineers work on, and none of that requires the vehicle to come to us.

Stuck at the kerbside near Brymbo

The opportunity to pull over anywhere safe does not come to everybody. If you realised after setting off and ended up on the verge of Harwd Road, or at a lay-by somewhere with the hazards flashing, that is a normal call for us instead of a rare one.

Whether you remain by the motor or keep away from it rests on if staying in it seems wise. It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that is the catch: restart it to reach somewhere better and that blend goes further into the system with every mile driven. Driving on causes the car far more harm than a van heading out to an inconvenient location, and that's no trouble for us.

Driven it already? Pull over, then check below

Here is where the local M53 counts, under 15 miles from Brymbo. A loss of power, a lumpy idle, some smoke: those are the symptoms when they appear, instead of a tidy stop — and a misfuelled diesel will usually take you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong at all.

The next safe exit is the one to take. Switch off there, then leave the restarting alone. Long drive? Anything close to the under 5 miles to the closest city and you should assume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it arrived at by the mixture. Say that on the call, since it alters what goes in the van.

Where's Brymbo?

Brymbo is a village in Wrexham county, situated inland at an elevation of 207 metres, approximately 3.2 miles from Wrexham city. Brymbo has a population of around 2120 people, with semi-detached housing being the predominant type. Brymbo is located near several other small places, including Mount Sion, Mount Zion, and Moss. Brymbo is about 164.5 miles from London, making it a relatively distant community from the capital city.

What we do when our engineers arrive with you in Brymbo

  • The answers shape the work, which is why we ask before pricing: what got in, how much of that, and whether the motor has run.
  • The polluted mixture comes from your tank.
  • Fuel lines are flushed through and your filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the fuel system that started any of this.
  • Bleeding the system follows, once new diesel is in.
  • Once it is fired up, our engineers make sure it runs correctly on clean diesel.

From there, you are ready to drive away. All of this is done where the vehicle is, so it never needs to be taken to a workshop, and when it has been caught soon, permanent damage is very rare.

A distinct matter: AdBlue in a diesel tank in Brymbo

The problem is not the same, though the first rule is — never start it — if what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol. The protection a fuel system relies on is taken away by petrol, which weakens the diesel. AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with your diesel and you get rust instead, plus residue.

Both are ours. There's a separate Brymbo page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.

How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain around Brymbo?

What changes the price is listed below, because this job isn't one job and our engineers cannot honestly put a single number on this page.

  • Has it been run or driven? Nothing else counts for as much.
  • How much of the wrong fuel was put in, against how much your tank can hold.
  • Whether it was petrol or AdBlue.
  • Where is it? And can a technician reach it and work there safely?

The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight instead of as a range. For the vehicle at home that is going nowhere and isn't urgent, works too.

Petrol in diesel: frequent questions in Brymbo

Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Brymbo?

Yes, and it is where a large portion of this work gets done. Tell us which one you're at when you ring and we will tell you whether our engineers can work there. With the owner's agreement we work at Asda and the other forecourts nearby all the time.

How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Proportion settles it instead of litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run. A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different scenarios, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if the system has had that blend pulled through it.

Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then switch off and keep it off. Driving takes the trouble along — out of that tank, into the pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely helpful thing left to you isn't restarting the car.

Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

It's not a modification, and so a drain then flush carried out properly does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty. Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause an argument with one.

Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

What petrol has weakened is not restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old fix for a separate fault. So no. Afterwards? Still petrol in that tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

No. Our technicians drain and flush the vehicle wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a main dealer.

You, and the vehicle, still together?

Leave the engine switched off.

Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, switch off, and no restarting the vehicle after that. Cold, parked, going nowhere: that's the best position to be in. Motorists fear this a lot more than they need to.

Throughout Wrexham and in Brymbo: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
