Petrol in Diesel

Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Daisy Hill?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled vehicles where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive, throughout Daisy Hill and the rest of West Yorkshire. The very first thing to do is not to turn on your engine. When the motor has not yet been started and the fuel is still sitting in that tank, a fuel drain is almost always all it takes, and the next few minutes settle that, not how much went in. Contact us and then our engineers can tell you what happens next before you attempt much else.

What to try first about petrol in a diesel

  • While you drive, the pump and the fuel injectors wear down. That is why you do not start it, and why you do not believe it once it has started. The catch about petrol in a diesel especially — the bit most people get wrong — is that it drives away fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine generally will not run at all, which stops the driver and stops the damage with them. This one lets you drive on.
  • Turning your ignition on commonly primes your system, and priming is what draws petrol out of the tank then into the pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps protected on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol handles the burning and none of the oiling. Leave the ignition alone.
  • Don't pour diesel on top to weaken it. A diesel fuel system will not cope with petrol by percentage in the way that advice suggests, and topping up removes nothing — it simply leaves you a bigger tank of the same mix. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is still petrol.
  • We'd sooner come to an odd location than have it started — so if you safely can, stay put. Nothing is easier to sort out than a vehicle that has never shifted. On the verge on Daisy Hill Lane, that means hazards on then keep it.
  • Find out where you are before phoning. A postcode that starts BD9 6, and the name of whatever is nearest to you. Otherwise the van circles rather than arriving.
  • Three answers settle the whole job: the fuel you put in, the approximate quantity of it, plus if it has been turning since. The number is 0333 366 0103.

At a forecourt: clearing petrol from your diesel

Forecourts are where the job mostly kicks off, and where a big part of that ends. The drain usually gets done there and then. Still on the forecourt at Shell? Given the site's consent, that is a spot we work, and routinely.

A forecourt is the only location the mistake can be spotted before the engine has started. The few seconds between checking your receipt and going for your key determine how much requires flushing. Anywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — your car was fired up and moved to get there, so fuel was drawn from your tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump. That means the lines and your filter need flushing as well as the tank. It is not a catastrophe, and our engineers can still put it right where the car sits.

Wheel it out of the way if the attendants volunteer, and they generally will. The next customer gets past the petrol pump, and that's worth doing. Firing the car over four car lengths? No.

Mobile fuel drain van at a diesel car in Daisy Hill

If you have put petrol in your diesel BMW 3 Series in Daisy Hill and you're now stranded at M&S Foodhall with a boot full of shopping, ring us. Do not start the car a second time to exit the spot. We will get to you, drain that tank, flush the fuel lines then put clean diesel in so you can head home. A mile or so at easy throttle draws very little fuel, which is why such jobs are often the simple cases.

Hazards on. Motor off. Phone. It's twenty to nine at the gates of Lady Royd Primary School, you're late, and your receipt reads unleaded — and though three miles in your Dacia Duster sounds like nothing, fuel is metered to demand, and a rushed drive demands plenty of it.

Pulled off the forecourt, read your receipt, and parked your diesel Ford Kuga up close to Church of Our Lady and the First Martyrs of Rome a couple of hundred yards later? That is about as well as this goes once your engine has turned. Ring us and leave it off. The short drive genuinely helps, but it was still a start and a drive, so diluted fuel has reached the filter and your pump — which is why our engineers rinse your lines rather than only draining that tank.

Unfamiliar locations are where this happens most, and the reason is mechanical instead of sloppy: the slimmer petrol nozzle goes into a modern diesel filler neck with almost no resistance at all. Filled up near Masjid Nur without thinking, in a diesel Citroen C3 you have had for two days? Ring us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars often get driven further before anybody notices, and distance is what settles how much petrol gets to the injectors.

A couple of streets, then it stopped. Throttle limp, idle ragged, and the diesel Kia Sportage is parked up near Haworth Road Library. The engine isn't packing up — that deadness is fuel that will not build pressure. There's no light on the dash for it, so motors like yours generally get driven once more before anybody picks up the phone. Don't. Off, and ring us.

Daisy Hill and the villages beside it

These same trips bring us to Heaton, Chellow Heights, Allerton, Four Lane Ends and Fairweather Green along with Daisy Hill, which is a residential suburb.

There are dedicated pages for most places across West Yorkshire, and the ones listed above are merely the nearest neighbours — so yours being left off the list means nothing about whether our technicians come. On a border, or somewhere your satnav struggles with? Call us to ask instead of presuming.

That map outlines the patch the page spans. Your car never needs to move to us. We operate across every bit of it — roadside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

Roadside stops in Daisy Hill

Not everyone gets the chance to stop somewhere safe. A routine call for us rather than an odd one: realised after setting off, landed along the verge of Daisy Hill Back Lane or at a lay-by with the hazards flashing.

Sit by the vehicle if it's safe to be there, yet clear of the car when it's not. Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol pulls that blend further into your fuel system — and oblige it frequently will, which is why your engine doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier. Driving on causes the vehicle far more harm than a technician coming out to an awkward location, and that's no trouble for us.

Some miles on petrol in a diesel: what now?

This is where your M606 comes into it — under 5 miles from Daisy Hill. Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will usually do both before anything seems wrong. What you get then is seldom a clean stop. Power falls away, your idle gets uneven, and there may be some smoke.

Pull off at the next safe exit, switch off, and do not start the car to reposition. On a longer trip — anything approaching the under 3 miles to the closest city — assume the contamination has been through the fuel filter, the pump and the injectors, and say so when you call. It alters what our technicians bring.

Once we get to you in Daisy Hill: what we do

  • The responses alter the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price: what was put in, how much of it, and if the motor has run.
  • That tank gets cleared of it.
  • Fuel lines are rinsed through and the filter cleaned, leaving nothing in your system that caused any of this.
  • Our technicians pour new diesel in and bleed the fuel system.
  • After it's started, our engineers check it runs correctly on new diesel.

That has your car ready to set off. Our technicians do all of it wherever the car has stopped, which means it never has to be taken to a garage, and if it has been spotted early, it's very rare for there to be permanent damage.

A distinct matter: AdBlue in a diesel tank in Daisy Hill

If what was put in was AdBlue rather than petrol, the opening instruction is the same — don't start it — yet the problem is not. Thinned diesel, and no lubrication left for the fuel system that relies on it. That's petrol. AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus build-up.

Often the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story sits on its own Daisy Hill page. Both are ours to deal with.

Daisy Hill pricing for a petrol-in-diesel drain

One price wouldn't be fair here, because this isn't one job. These are the things that move it:

  • This is the big one: whether the engine has been started, or driven.
  • The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.
  • Whether it was unleaded or AdBlue.
  • Where is it? And can a van reach it and work there sensibly?

Tell us what the vehicle is, how much went in, and whether the motor has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range. For your car at home that is going nowhere and isn't urgent, is fine too.

Things we hear about petrol in diesel around Daisy Hill

Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Daisy Hill?

Much of what our engineers do happens nowhere else. So yes. Our technicians work at Morrisons and the other forecourts nearby routinely, with the station's agreement — tell us which one you're at when you ring and we'll tell you if we can work there.

Is there a sensible quantity of petrol in a diesel?

It depends on the proportion instead of the litres, and a lot more on whether the motor has run. An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct situations, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the system has had that mixture drawn through it.

Already driven it with petrol in the diesel? Now what?

Stop somewhere safe, turn off, and leave the car off. Driving is what shifts the trouble from that tank into the pump and injectors — but it's salvageable a lot more regularly than drivers fear, and the single most helpful thing you can do now isn't restart the car.

My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

It's not an alteration, and so a drain and flush carried out correctly doesn't cancel a manufacturer's warranty. What's likelier to start a disagreement is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for the motor to stay off.

Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

Two-stroke oil solves a distinct fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol diluted. No. After that? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

There's no need to take it to a franchised dealer, because our technicians drain and clean your car wherever it is.

Is your car still with you?

That engine stays off.

If you have already driven the car, pull in somewhere sensible, turn it off and leave it off. This is recoverable from much more often than people assume, and a parked, cold motor is the best place to be in.

Across West Yorkshire and in Daisy Hill: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
