Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Drumoak?
If you have not started your engine as yet, do not. A drain and nothing else is almost always what a car needs while the petrol is still inside that tank and the engine has not been started, which is why it's the following few minutes that count, not how much got in. Petrol in Diesel travels to the car wherever it has stopped in Drumoak or the remainder of Aberdeenshire, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive, and drains and flushes it there. Our technicians can show you what the next move will be. Phone — it comes ahead of all else.
What to try first about petrol in a diesel
- Do not crank it — and don't rely on it if it fires up. That is the part most people have wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol engine given diesel normally just can't run, and so the person stops and the wear stops with them. A diesel given petrol normally starts, idles and drives off quite happily for several miles. It isn't fine. It is wearing the fuel system whenever you drive.
- Two jobs, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps that injection pump and injectors protected. Petrol only manages the one. That is why your ignition remains off as well — flick it on and you usually prime the system, and that is petrol exiting that tank for just those parts.
- Do not dilute it. Diesel poured on top takes out nothing, and so all you have is more of what was already there, because percentage is not how a diesel fuel system accepts petrol. Super unleaded? Still petrol. The octane makes no difference.
- Our team would rather travel to an odd location than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay still. Nothing is quicker to sort out than a vehicle that hasn't shifted. On the verge on North Deeside Road, that means hazards on and keep it.
- Before you call, gather your position. Anything nearest to you with a sign on it, plus a postcode starting AB31 5 — that is what decides whether our van shows up or circles.
- Three answers determine the full visit: the liquid you put in, the approximate measure involved, plus whether anything has been going since. Our line is 0333 366 0103.
Petrol in a diesel Renault Clio, parked at Portlethen since this morning? The wait has lost you nothing — fuel in a tank is harmless. It was the journey in that drew thinned diesel through the pump. Ring us before you move the car.
Tell us this much and our technicians can work with it: a diesel Volkswagen Tiguan, a couple of litres of unleaded in it, two miles or so, shut off outside Spar now. Time elapsed is not the thing our technicians need. Fuel drawn by the pump is.
Shift it out of that gateway and deal with it later — that's what somebody will say, and it's wrong. Stopped on the zig-zags at the local primary school, a misfilled diesel Skoda Octavia is an inconvenience and nothing worse. Started three more times for good manners, it's no longer a tank fault but a fuel system one, since priming occurs with every start and more petrol goes through the filter on to your pump. Let them complain. Ring us.
Why we are direct about not driving on: the pump waits ahead of the injectors, and so whatever a worn pump gives off travels on with your fuel. Leave the Audi A4 near Drumoak Memorial Gardens then call us.
Most of these happen somewhere strange, and the cause is mechanical rather than careless — practically no resistance meets a slimmer petrol nozzle entering a modern diesel filler neck. Two days into a diesel Ford Focus, a fill-up close to The Keith Tower that you did not think about? Phone us from where you are. Courtesy and hire cars go further before anybody notices it, and the further they go, the more petrol winds up at the fuel injectors.
Can petrol be taken out of a diesel at a forecourt?
Forecourts are where this job usually begins, and where a large part of that finishes. If you're still at the forecourt at BP, that is typically where the drain happens — our technicians work on station forecourts regularly, with the owner's agreement.
A filling station is the only setting this is halted before your motor has run. Everywhere else — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — the vehicle was switched on and driven to get there, which means fuel was sucked from that tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure pump. That's not a catastrophe, and our technicians can still sort it out where it stands. It does mean the fuel lines and the filter need rinsing as well as the tank, and that is determined by the few seconds between reading the receipt and reaching for the key.
Attendants will usually pitch in pushing it clear of the petrol pump, which lets the next motorist get past. Welcome the help. Moving it four bays doesn't merit cranking it.
Will our engineers reach your end of Drumoak?
The same trips bring us to Drum, Kincluny, Durris Ho, Hardgate and Upper Park along with Drumoak, which is a village.
Not on this list? That tells you nothing. The places above are only the nearest few, and most places in Aberdeenshire have a page of their own elsewhere on the site. Call us to enquire instead of presuming, especially where you are on a boundary or somewhere a satnav can't find.
This map shows the area the page covers. All of that is ground we serve: a roadside, a forecourt, a private drive, a car park. You don't drive the car anywhere.
Kerbside breakdowns around Drumoak
Some drivers have no suitable spot to pull in whatsoever. A routine call for us instead of a rare one: worked out after setting off, landed by the verge beside Keithmuir Gardens or in a lay-by with the hazards flashing.
Stay with your car when it's wise to sit there, but clear of the vehicle when it is not. It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that's the problem: restart the vehicle to get to somewhere better and that blend goes further into the system with every mile travelled. Our van driving to an inconvenient location is no bother for us, and it's much better for the vehicle than carrying on.
Driven it already? Pull over, then see below
This is where the local M90 comes in — over 50 miles from Drumoak. It will frequently take you onto it, and some way along, before you spot a thing. Then it is smoke, a rough idle and power falling away — not a neat stop. Misfuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.
Don't start it to reposition. Pull off at the first safe exit then turn off. It alters what our engineers bring, and so mention it when you phone: on a longer trip — anything near the under 15 miles to the closest city — take it the mixture has been through the fuel filter, the pump and your injectors.
Drumoak itself
Drumoak is a village situated on the banks of the River Dee in Aberdeenshire, with a mix of rural and residential areas. Drumoak sits at an elevation of 57 metres, close to the city of Aberdeen, and is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock. Drumoak is located near several other small settlements, including Drum and Kincluny, and is around 395 miles from London.
What happens when our engineers reach you in Drumoak
- The answers change the work, which is why our engineers ask before quoting: what was put in, how much of that, and whether the engine has run.
- The tank is cleared completely.
- Lines cleaned, filter cleaned. Whatever is left afterwards isn't the thing that caused the trouble.
- Bleeding the system follows, once clean diesel is in.
- Once it is fired up, our engineers check it runs correctly on new diesel.
The car is then ready for you to pull away. There's no need for a garage at any stage, because the work is all done where the vehicle is, and when it's caught quickly, long-term damage is very rare.
AdBlue in your diesel tank instead, in Drumoak?
The problem isn't the same, though the opening instruction is — do not start it — if what got in was AdBlue instead of petrol. Weakened diesel, and no lubrication left for your fuel system that relies on it. That is petrol. AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with the diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus residue.
Both are ours. There is a separate Drumoak page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.
How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain in Drumoak?
We cannot put one figure on this page truthfully, as the job isn't one job. What moves it:
- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else counts for as much.
- Wrong fuel in, against what your tank takes — that proportion.
- Whether it's unleaded or AdBlue.
- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there's safe for a van.
The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm instead of as a range. Not pressing, with the vehicle at home and going nowhere? Then is fine.
Drumoak motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel
Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Drumoak?
Yes, and it is where a big portion of this work happens. We visit Tesco and the other forecourts locally all the time, with the station's agreement — tell us which one you're at when you call and we'll tell you whether our technicians can work there.
Is there a safe quantity of petrol in a diesel?
It rests on the ratio rather than the litres, and much more on whether the motor has run. What settles how much work is needed is if that mixture has been pulled through the fuel system — since though five litres in an almost empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one, either way that is the query.
Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the vehicle
Turn off somewhere sensible, and keep it that way after you stop. Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does move the trouble out of your tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays salvageable far more commonly than people expect.
Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?
It's not a modification, and so a drain then flush carried out properly doesn't cancel a manufacturer's warranty. Another good reason to leave it switched off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one.
Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?
Two-stroke oil solves a different problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No. The pump still has to live with it, as your tank still has petrol in it afterwards.
Main dealers and petrol in a diesel
No. Our engineers drain and clean your car wherever it is, so there is no need to take it to a main dealer.
Is the car still with you?
The motor remains off.
Already driven it? Then stop somewhere safe, turn off, then let the vehicle remain that way. Cold, stationary, going nowhere: that's the best place to be in. People fear this far more than they need to.
