Petrol in Diesel

Hengoed: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrongly fuelled cars where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, all over Hengoed and the rest of Shropshire. The very first thing to do is not to fire up the engine. While your engine has not yet been started and the fuel is still in your tank, a fuel drain is almost always all it takes, and the following few minutes settle that, not how much was put in. Call us so our team shall explain what happens after that before you do much else.

Petrol in a diesel: what to try now

  • Give a petrol engine diesel and it will normally fail to run at all, and so the driver stops there and so does the harm. Feed a diesel petrol and the engine starts, it ticks over, it drives off — all right for a few miles. Most people have that backwards, which is the thing they get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. So do not start the car. And if started, do not depend on it: the fuel system is wearing down whenever you drive.
  • Flicking your ignition on usually primes that system, and priming is what draws petrol out of the tank then into your pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps oiled on its way through, before it burns. Petrol handles the burning and none of the oiling. Leave the ignition alone.
  • That guidance assumes a diesel fuel system accepts petrol by percentage. It won't. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you get is a fuller tank of the same mixture. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is just petrol.
  • We'd rather come to an odd place than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is easier to handle than a vehicle that has never shifted. On the verge on Garside Close, that means hazards on and leave it.
  • A van turning up rather than circling depends on two things: a postcode that starts SY10 7, and whatever is next to you with a sign on it. Have both prepared before you dial.
  • Ring 0333 366 0103. Tell us what went in, about how many litres, and if the motor has started. Those three replies settle the whole visit.

Can petrol be pumped out of your diesel at a forecourt?

A good portion of the job is done at the pump, as that's where it mostly kicks off. If you're still on the forecourt at Shell, that is generally where the drain takes place — we work on garage forecourts regularly, with the site's agreement.

At a forecourt, this gets halted with the engine never run, and no place else manages that. Fuel drawn out of your tank and through the fuel filter, all the way to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what occurs when the motor is started and the vehicle is driven to where it is now: the car park, the driveway or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush takes in the fuel filter and the fuel lines as well as the tank. That's still not a calamity, and we deal with it where your car sits. What determines it is whether the key was turned in the seconds after the receipt was read.

Staff will usually help out pushing it out from the pump, which lets the next customer get by. Accept the offer. Starting the car over four vehicle lengths? Not a chance.

Mobile fuel drain van at a diesel car in Hengoed

We are in car parks like the one at Aldi a lot, and it's almost never your fuel that complicates them. It's the bay. Vehicles both sides. Trolleys stacked up behind. Sometimes a height limit at the way in, which decides if a van can reach you at all. So tell us how boxed in you are when you phone, and which way the car is pointing. If there is no room to work beside that Volkswagen Passat, our engineers shift it without your engine. That isn't fussiness over a handful of seconds: starts prime things, blend comes out of your tank on to your pump, and a vehicle shuffled twice for a nicer space is gradually a harder job than one no one touched.

How far, and how hard? The second of those matters more than the first, so have both prepared. Your Skoda Octavia will have seemed entirely ordinary on the way back from Gobowen Primary School — they all do, and that is the snag. Diesel into a petrol motor mostly will not run at all: the motorist stops, and so does the harm. Petrol into a diesel fires up, idles, moves off like nothing happened, while the high-pressure fuel pump gets on with its work minus the lubrication the fuel should be giving it. No warning appears, since behind the wheel nothing seems wrong.

Your BMW 3 Series stays where it is in the car park outside The Last Inn for the whole job, which normally runs like this. First we ask what got in, approximately how much, and whether your engine has run since, because most of the work rests on those replies. That tank is emptied of the tainted mix, your lines are cleaned, and the filter comes off if it's a serviceable one. With fresh diesel in and your system primed, the car is fired up and checked, and once it's running properly you drive away.

Emptying your Vauxhall Astra, changing your filter where there is a workable one, cleaning the lines, putting clean fuel through the full system: that's the job, and it is shaped by the worst of that waiting in the fuel lines rather than in the tank by this point. Three things help when you phone from close to All Saints — which side the filler is on, whether our van can pull up alongside without blocking the road, and whether the engine has run since you filled up. On-street is the usual location our engineers work, and so the spot itself is hardly ever the problem. A cramped parking space beats a car driven somewhere more convenient.

Knocking? Lumpy idle? White smoke, throttle gone limp? That's your misfuelled Mercedes A-Class, a diesel, saying what is wrong with it. Stop wherever you happen to be, perhaps close to WW1 War Memorial, then leave the restarting alone.

Hengoed plus the towns next to it

Those same journeys bring us to Daywall, Upper Hengoed, Gobowen, Pentre-clawdd and Preeshenlle besides Hengoed, which is a village.

If yours isn't on this list it does not mean we do not come — there are dedicated pages for nearly all locations across Shropshire, and the ones mentioned above are merely the nearest neighbours. Guessing is the mistake to skip, particularly on the border or anywhere your phone gets lost. Call us and check.

See our map for the patch covered here. Our technicians work roadside, on forecourts, on driveways and in car parks over all of that, and your car does not need to come to us.

Stuck by the roadside in Hengoed

Some people have no safe spot to pull over whatsoever. Set off, then twigged? Finished up along the verge on A5, or stuck in some lay-by with the hazard lights flashing? That's a common call here. Not a rare one.

Remain with your car when it is safe to sit inside, yet out of the vehicle if it is not. It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that's the trouble: start it up to get to somewhere better and that mixture goes further into your fuel system with every mile driven. A van coming to an awkward spot is no trouble for us, and it is much better for your car than carrying on.

Already run it? Petrol in a diesel over some miles

Your M53 is the one that counts now, and it lies under 25 miles from Hengoed. It will often get you onto it, and some way along, before you feel a thing. Then it is some smoke, an uneven idle and power falling away — not a neat stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Come off at the first safe junction, switch off, and never start it to move it. Assume the worst of that on a long trip. Anything near the under 15 miles to the nearest city, and the mixture has been through your filter, through the pump, through the injectors. Tell us when you call. What we bring differs.

Hengoed itself

Hengoed is a small village in Shropshire, situated on the banks of a river at an elevation of around 135 metres. Hengoed lies near the villages of Daywall and Upper Hengoed, and is close to the town of Gobowen. Hengoed has a population of approximately 510 people, living in predominantly semi-detached housing. Hengoed is located about 11 miles from Wrexham and 156.7 miles from London.

What our engineers do when our engineers get to you around Hengoed

  • Our technicians find out what went in, how much, and whether the motor has run. The responses change the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price.
  • Your tank gets emptied of everything.
  • Our engineers clean your fuel lines and clean the fuel filter, and so what's remaining in your system is not what created the trouble.
  • Priming follows, once fresh diesel is in.
  • It's fired up with fresh diesel in it, and we confirm that it's running smoothly.

That has your car ready to set off. Everything is done where the car is, so it never has to be taken to a garage, and when it has been noticed early, permanent damage is very rare.

AdBlue in the diesel tank by mistake, in Hengoed?

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the first step is unchanged — your motor stays off — whereas this problem underneath it's a separate one altogether. Weakened diesel, and no lubrication left for the system that depends on it. That is petrol. AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it brings corrosion and deposits instead.

AdBlue removal around Hengoed has a page of its own with the full story on it, including why it's usually the more serious of the two. We handle both.

How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain around Hengoed?

One figure wouldn't be honest here, as this isn't one job. These are the things that change it:

  • Whether the motor has been run or driven. This is the main one.
  • How much of the wrong fuel went in, judged against how much the tank can hold.
  • Which got in: unleaded or AdBlue.
  • Access: the vehicle's position, and if working on it there's safe for a technician.

Tell us the car, the amount and if it has run, and you will get a firm answer rather than a range. If it is not time-critical — your car is at home and going nowhere — is fine too.

Petrol in diesel: everyday questions in Hengoed

Fuel drains on a Hengoed petrol station forecourt

Plenty of what our technicians do gets done nowhere else. So yes. Often, provided the site agrees: BP, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether we can work in that place is something our engineers answer there and then.

Is there a sensible amount of petrol in a diesel?

Proportion settles it instead of litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run. Five litres into a nearly dry tank is not five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that blend been drawn right through, or has it not?

Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? What then?

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that. Driving is what takes the issue from that tank into the pump and injectors — but it's recoverable much more often than motorists expect, and the single most valuable thing you can do now isn't restart the vehicle.

Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

It isn't a modification, and so a drain and flush carried out properly does not void a manufacturer's warranty. Another reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause a disagreement with one.

Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. It belongs to a different problem from a separate era, and petrol has thinned something no oil of that kind restores. Your tank still has petrol in it after that, and the pump still has to cope with it.

Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

There is no need to take it to a franchised dealer, since we drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.

Is the vehicle still with you?

That engine remains off.

Switch it off somewhere sensible then keep it off, if you have already driven it. A stationary, cold motor is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from a lot more regularly than people expect.
