Petrol in a Diesel Car in Henley Green
With the tank still carrying the petrol and your engine not yet run, nearly every job takes only a drain, so keep the engine off. That outcome is decided in the minutes straight after the fill-up, and not by the amount that was put in. Throughout Henley Green and the rest of West Midlands, Petrol in Diesel drains your car and flushes it where it sits, whether at a roadside, on a drive or at a forecourt. Call us before anything else begins, and you will see what happens from there.
What now? Petrol in a diesel, in order
- Never start the vehicle — and do not believe it when it starts. That is the part motorists get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. A petrol engine filled with diesel normally just won't run, and so the driver stops and the damage halts with them. A diesel filled with petrol typically starts, idles and pulls away just fine for several miles. It is not fine. It's eating into your fuel system whenever you drive.
- Turning the car's ignition on commonly primes the system, and priming is what pulls petrol out of that tank and into the pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps lubricated on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol handles the burning and none of the oiling. Leave your ignition alone.
- That advice presumes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It will not. Tip diesel on top and nothing at all is removed; what you have is a larger tank of the same blend. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.
- We would rather come to a difficult location than have it started — so if you sensibly can, sit tight. Nothing is quicker to sort out than a vehicle that has never shifted. On the verge on Ellacombe Road, that means hazards on then keep the car.
- Get your location ready before you ring. A postcode that starts CV2 1 and whatever is nearest to you with a sign on it is the difference between a van arriving and a van circling.
- Phone 0333 366 0103. Tell us what got in, roughly how many litres, and also if the engine has run. These three details shape the full visit.
The journey in is what drew thinned diesel through the pump. Sitting still has drawn nothing. Petrol in a diesel Volkswagen Golf, parked at Coventry Arena all day, waits idle in the tank while it waits. Phone first — before your keys go in.
You will be told to shift it clear of the gateway and deal with it later. Don't. On the zig-zags outside Henley Green Primary, a misfuelled Audi A4 running on diesel is in the way, and that's all it is. Fire it up three more times being polite and you have turned a tank into a fuel system: every start primes your lines, every prime draws more petrol through the filter towards the pump. Let them moan. Phone us.
Simple job, this one — until someone takes it home. A diesel Ford Focus left at Red Lion with petrol in the tank loses nothing by standing there overnight, so leave the vehicle then phone us once it is light. Expect a query about the drive there, though. Brief and cold is precisely where petrol battles to burn, and what will not burn can slip past the rings and into the engine oil.
Injection pressure is the part being lost. Petrol weakens diesel, and thinner fuel leaks past the close-fitting components that are supposed to build that pressure, and so the further a diesel Peugeot 3008 drove, the less well it held. Fine on the way out and sluggish on the way back is how that trip to Potters Green Corridor went, then, and your tank is the place to look. Stop somewhere sensible, switch off and call us.
It got a couple of streets and stopped. The throttle went soft, your idle turned ragged, and the diesel Mercedes A-Class is now waiting near Highest Point. That deadness is the fuel failing to build pressure correctly not the motor packing up — and since there is no warning light for it, vehicles in that position typically get driven once more before somebody phones. Do not. Switch it off then phone us.
Pump-side draining for petrol in a diesel
Most of the work begins at the pump, meaning a large part of it is completed on site. If you're still on the forecourt at Gulf, that's generally where the drain gets done — we operate on station forecourts all the time, with the site's permission.
Before the engine has run — a garage is the only setting this is halted. Our engineers can still put it right where it sits, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a drive or in a lay-by, your car has been switched on and moved there, and that pulled fuel through the fuel filter and into your high-pressure pump, all the way from the tank. None of that is a calamity, though the flush then has to reach past that tank to the lines and your filter, and the few seconds between reading the receipt and going for the keys are what determine that.
Staff will usually help out pushing it out from the petrol pump, which lets the next driver get by. Welcome the assistance. Four vehicle lengths is not worth a start.
Places we cover around Henley Green
Henley Green is a residential suburb, and so our technicians are out to the town and to the villages near it on the usual runs: Potters Green, Bell Green, Wyken Green, Wood End and Walsgrave on Sowe.
There are pages for nearly all places around West Midlands, and the ones listed above are simply the nearest neighbours — so yours being absent from that list means nothing about whether we come. Contact us to ask rather than assuming — county lines above all, and wherever the satnav may get wrong.
The map shows the patch the page includes. Roadside, forecourt, private drive, car park: every bit of it is ground our technicians serve, and none of it asks your car to travel to us.
Henley Green: stuck wherever you stopped
Not everybody has a sensible place to pull over. Hazards on at a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge beside Broad Park Road because you noticed after setting off — our technicians take that call often enough that it's the usual kind.
Fine right there? Sit with it. Not safe? Step out and away from it. Do not fire up your engine to limp the car somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling that mixture further into the system. We'll bring our van to a difficult spot without any fuss, and for the vehicle that is much better than carrying on.
A couple of miles on petrol in a diesel: what now?
This is where your M6 comes in — under a mile from Henley Green. It will usually take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is smoke, a lumpy idle and power falling away — not a neat stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.
Take the first exit that is sensible, pull up there, and do not restart it to reposition. Assume the worst of it on a long drive. Anything near the under 3 miles to the nearest city, and the contamination has been through the filter, through your pump, through the fuel injectors. Say so when you phone. What our engineers bring changes.
Where is Henley Green?
Henley Green is a suburban area located on the outskirts of Coventry, near the River Sowe, with a mix of terraced housing and local amenities. Henley Green sits at an elevation of around 85 metres, close to nearby places such as Potters Green, Bell Green, and Wyken Green. Henley Green is home to a population of approximately 5957 residents, who enjoy a relatively short commute to Coventry city centre, just 2.6 miles away. Henley Green is also within reasonable distance of London, at around 85.3 miles,
The job in Henley Green, step by step
- Three things get asked before any price — the fuel that went in, the amount, and if anything has been run since. Each answer changes the work.
- The contaminated fuel is drawn out of that tank.
- Lines purged, filter cleared. Whatever remains later isn't the thing that caused the problem.
- Our engineers put clean diesel in and prime the system.
- The engine is fired up and tested to confirm it runs correctly on new diesel.
That has it ready to pull away. We do all of it wherever the vehicle has come to a stop, which means it never needs to go to a garage, and when it has been spotted soon, it is very uncommon for there to be long-term damage.
Henley Green AdBlue removal is a separate job
Do not fire it up: that opening instruction holds whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the problem itself. Petrol dilutes the diesel and removes the lubrication the fuel system relies on. Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes rust and deposits.
Both are ours. There's a separate Henley Green page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.
Henley Green pricing for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain
One figure wouldn't be honest here, as this is not one job. These are the things that move it:
- This is the key one: whether the engine has been started, or driven.
- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.
- The kind of fluid in the tank, unleaded or AdBlue.
- Whether a technician can sensibly get to the car and work on it, which depends on where the vehicle is.
Tell us the vehicle, the amount and whether it has run, and you will get a straight answer rather than a range. Not urgent, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then does the job.
Henley Green motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel
At a petrol station in Henley Green, can you do a fuel drain there?
A large part of this work happens there, so yes. We visit another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts nearby routinely, with the site's permission — tell us which one you are at when you call and we'll tell you if our technicians can work there.
Is there a safe quantity of petrol in a diesel?
Litres are not the yardstick. Proportion is, and much more than either, it matters whether anything has been run. Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a separate matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that settles how much work is required is whether that mixture has been drawn through the system.
Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?
Turn off somewhere safe, then keep it that way after you stop. It is recoverable far more regularly than people assume, even though driving is what shifts the trouble from that tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart it.
My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?
It isn't a change, so a drain and flush carried out properly does not cancel a manufacturer's warranty. Another reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one.
Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?
What petrol has thinned isn't restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old fix for a separate fault. So no. Your tank still has petrol in it after that, and the pump still has to put up with it.
Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?
There is no need to bring it to a franchised dealer, because our engineers drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.
You, and your car, still together?
The engine stays off.
Switch it off somewhere sensible and keep it off, if you have already driven it. Cold and still, a car is in the best position available — and motorists fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.
