Petrol in a Diesel Car in Longlands

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled cars where they are, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive, throughout Longlands and the remainder of Greater London. The first thing to do is not to turn on the engine. When your engine has not yet run and the fuel is still sitting in that tank, a tank drain is almost always all it requires, and the coming few minutes settle that, not how much went in. Contact us and then we will explain what follows next before you attempt any more.

Petrol in a diesel: what to try now

  • Give a petrol motor diesel and it will typically not run at all, and so the motorist stops there and so does the harm. Feed a diesel petrol and the car starts, it ticks over, it pulls away — fine enough for several miles. Drivers have that muddled, which is the bit they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So never fire it up. And once started, don't trust it: the fuel system is wearing down while you drive.
  • Two jobs, diesel: it burns, and on the way through it keeps your high-pressure pump and injectors lubricated. Petrol only handles the one. Which is why your ignition stays off as well — turn it on and you commonly prime the system, and that is petrol exiting your tank for exactly those components.
  • Never put diesel on top to weaken it. A diesel fuel system does not tolerate petrol by percentage in the way that advice presumes, and topping up clears nothing — it just gives you a fuller tank of the same mix. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is still petrol.
  • We would much rather drive to an awkward location than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay put. Nothing is simpler to deal with than a motor that has not moved. On the verge on Parkhill Road, that means hazards on and leave the vehicle.
  • Get your position ready before you dial. A postcode starting DA15 7 and whatever is closest to you with a sign on it is the difference between our van showing up and our van circling.
  • Ring 0333 366 0103. Let us know what got in, approximately how many litres, and whether the engine has started. Those three replies shape the entire visit.

The drive in is what sucked thinned diesel through the pump. Standing still has pulled nothing. Petrol in a diesel Volkswagen Golf, left outside Sidcup all day, waits idle in your tank while it waits. Phone us first — before your keys come out.

Every start primes your fuel system and draws more of the blend out of that tank and toward the pump — which is why a vehicle moved twice into a nicer spot has gradually become a bigger job than one left just where it stopped. So where our engineers cannot work beside your diesel Renault Megane, our engineers shift it without running it. None of that is pedantry about a handful of seconds of running. Car parks like the one outside Morrisons our technicians work in often, and your fuel is hardly ever the tricky part: that bay is. Cars either side, a trolley shelter behind, sometimes a height bar at the entrance determining if our van gets to you at all. Tell us how boxed in you are, and which way the car faces.

Do not chance it. The drive home from Sidcup Working Men's & Social Club is perfectly possible, which is precisely the trouble — a diluted tank doesn't stop a diesel starting or pulling away, it just wears the parts your fuel is supposed to protect. Phone, and let the BMW 3 Series stay where it stands.

Why we're blunt about not driving on: your pump waits ahead of the fuel injectors, and so whatever a worn pump loses travels onward with your fuel. Leave the Ford Focus close to Sidcup Baptist Church then phone us.

The slimmer petrol nozzle fits a current diesel filler neck with practically no resistance at all, which makes this mechanical rather than careless. Unfamiliar places see most of it for that reason. So: filled up close to Christ Church without thinking, in a diesel Mercedes C-Class you have had for two days? Call us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars often get driven further before anyone notices, and miles settles how much petrol ends up at the injectors.

Can petrol be taken from your diesel on the forecourt?

Much of this work begins at a pump, which means a big part of it ends up done there. Still at Harvest Energy? Then that's typically where it gets done. Petrol station forecourts are normal for us, with the agreement of the site.

Before the motor has started — the forecourt is the single spot it is stopped. Everywhere else — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was started and driven to get there, which means fuel was sucked from that tank, through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure pump. That's not a catastrophe, and our engineers can still deal with it where it stands. It does mean your lines and your filter need flushing as well as the tank, and that's decided by the few seconds between checking your receipt and reaching for the keys.

The attendants will usually help you roll it clear of the petrol pump so the next driver can get past. That's worth doing. Shifting the car four bays doesn't merit firing the engine.

Will our technicians reach your side of Longlands?

Being a residential suburb, Longlands has a regular visit, whilst the areas round about come with it on the same round: Sidcup and Foxbury, Albany Park and Lamorbey, New Eltham.

There are separate pages for nearly all towns in Greater London, and the ones listed above are simply the nearest neighbours — so yours being missing from that list says nothing at all about whether our engineers come. Call us and enquire rather than presuming — county lines particularly, and anywhere the satnav can get wrong.

The map is the patch this page covers. We operate roadside, at forecourts, on driveways and at car parks across all of that, and your vehicle doesn't need to come to us.

Kerbside call-outs in Longlands

Not everyone gets a sensible spot to stop. If you worked it out after setting off and ended up on the verge of Longlands Road, or in a lay-by somewhere with the hazards going, that's a normal call for us rather than a rare one.

Clear of the vehicle while it's not safe to sit inside, with it if it is. Don't start it up to reach a safer location. It will go — a diesel on petrol usually obliges — and each mile of obliging pulls the mix deeper into the fuel system. We'll bring the van to an inconvenient place without any trouble, and for the car that's far better than pressing on.

So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel after a few miles

The M20 is the road that counts now, and sits under 10 miles from Longlands. Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a wrongly fuelled diesel will often do both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is seldom a tidy stop. Power falls away, the idle turns uneven, and there may be smoke.

Don't restart it to move it. Pull off at the first sensible junction and switch off. Long drive? Anything close to the under 10 miles to the closest city and you should assume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of that arrived at by the mixture. Say that on the call, because it affects what goes in the van.

About Longlands

Longlands is a suburban area in southeastern Greater London, situated near the River Thames at an elevation of around 45 metres. Longlands is located approximately 10.7 miles from central London and is close to nearby places such as Sidcup, Foxbury, and Albany Park. Longlands has a population of around 7299 people and is characterised by its predominant semi-detached housing stock. Longlands is a residential community with a mix of local amenities and transport links to London.

Once our technicians get to you in Longlands: what we do

  • Three things get established before any quote — your fuel that was put in, the amount, and whether anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.
  • The tainted fuel comes from your tank.
  • Lines flushed, filter cleared. Whatever remains afterwards isn't the thing that created the trouble.
  • Our engineers put clean diesel in and bleed the system.
  • The motor is turned on and tested to make sure it runs properly on fresh diesel.

Then it is ready to drive away. There is no need for a workshop at any stage, since the work is all done where your car is, and when it's noticed quickly, permanent damage is very unusual.

Longlands AdBlue removal is a distinct problem

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — your engine remains off — while this problem beneath it's a separate one altogether. Petrol weakens the diesel and removes the lubrication the system depends on. AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it brings rust and build-up instead.

AdBlue removal in Longlands has a page of its own with the detail on it, including why it's usually the more significant of the two. Our engineers deal with both.

How much is a petrol-in-diesel drain around Longlands?

One price wouldn't be fair here, because this isn't one job. These are the things that shift it:

  • Whether the motor has been started or driven. This is the key one.
  • How much of the wrong fuel was put in, judged against how much the tank holds.
  • AdBlue or petrol, whichever was put in.
  • Where the vehicle is, and whether our van can sensibly get to and work on it.

A clear answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: the car, the quantity, and whether it has run. Not urgent, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then works.

Things our engineers hear about petrol in diesel in Longlands

At a petrol station in Longlands, can you do a fuel drain there?

A large portion of this work takes place there, so yes. Our technicians attend BP and the other forecourts around town all the time, with the site's agreement — tell us which one you are at when you ring and we will tell you whether we can work there.

A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Litres are not the yardstick. Proportion is, and a lot more than either, it matters if anything has been run. A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct situations, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the system has had that mix sucked through it.

I put petrol in my diesel and drove the vehicle. What now?

Turn off somewhere safe, then keep it that way after you stop. Driving is what shifts the problem from the tank into your pump and injectors — but it's recoverable much more commonly than people expect, and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart the car.

Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty withstands a drain then flush done to a good standard, which is no alteration at all. What is likelier to start an argument is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for the engine to stay off.

Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

Two-stroke oil solves a different fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol diluted. No. The pump still has to put up with it, since that tank still has petrol in it later on.

Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

There's no need to bring it to a franchised dealer, since we drain and clean your car wherever it is.

Still with your car?

Switched off is the way the car remains.

Switch it off somewhere safe and leave it off, if you have already driven it. Cold, still, going nowhere: that's the best place to be in. Drivers fear this much more than they need to.
