Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Ochr-y-foel? Don't Start It
If you have not turned on your engine as yet, don't. A drain and nothing else is almost always what a motor requires while the petrol is still in your tank and the engine has not turned over, which is why it's the coming few minutes that count, not how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel travels to your car wherever it has ended up in Ochr-y-foel or the remainder of Denbighshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, and drains and flushes it there. Ring us before all else starts, and you will see what happens next.
What to do now about petrol in a diesel
- Whenever you drive, your pump and the fuel injectors wear down. This is why you never start the vehicle, and why you don't trust it once it has started. The trick about petrol in a diesel in particular — the part people get wrong — is that it drives off normally for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine normally cannot run at all, which stops the driver and stops the damage with them. This one lets you carry on.
- Leave the car's ignition off also. Diesel performs two roles: it ignites, and before it ignites it lubricates your high-pressure pump and its injectors. Petrol does the first and not the second. Turning your ignition on is commonly sufficient to prime your system, which moves the petrol out of the tank and into precisely those components.
- That advice assumes a diesel fuel system copes with petrol by percentage. It won't. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is removed; what you get is a fuller tank of the same mix. And no, the type makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.
- Our team would sooner travel to an awkward spot than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is easier to sort than a motor that hasn't shifted. On the verge on Ffordd Ffynnon, that means hazards on and keep the car.
- Get your location ready before you ring. A postcode starting LL18 6 and whatever is closest to you with a sign on it is the difference between the van turning up and our van circling.
- Dial 0333 366 0103. Say what got in, roughly how much, and if the engine has fired. Those three answers settle the whole call-out.
Forecourt drains for petrol in a diesel
Forecourts are where the work usually kicks off, and where a fair portion of it closes. If you're still at the forecourt at Texaco, that is usually where the drain takes place — we operate on station forecourts all the time, with the station's consent.
At the forecourt, this gets stopped with the engine never fired, and no place else manages it. Fuel sucked out of the tank and through the fuel filter, all the way to the high-pressure pump, is what happens when the motor is fired up and your car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes the fuel filter and your lines as well as your tank. That's still not a catastrophe, and our technicians sort it out where the vehicle stands. What determines it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the receipt was read.
The attendants will usually happily roll the car clear of the pump so the next motorist can get by. It is worth doing. Four vehicle lengths isn't worth the risk.
How much fuel your pump has drawn is what we're really asking — not how long ago any of that was. So the phone call our engineers like goes like this: diesel Renault Megane, a few litres of unleaded, a couple of miles driven, now switched off at Spar.
Shift it out of the gateway and deal with it later — that's what somebody will say, and it is wrong. Sitting on the zig-zags by the local primary school, a wrongly fuelled diesel BMW 3 Series is an inconvenience and nothing worse. Restarted three more times for politeness, it is no longer a tank issue but a fuel system one, as priming occurs with every start and more petrol goes past the fuel filter toward your pump. Let everyone moan. Give us a call.
Pull over somewhere sensible, turn off then phone us. Happy on the way out to Dyserth Bowling Club, flat on the way back? Then look at your tank. Petrol thins diesel; weaker fuel seeps past the close-fitting components that build injection pressure; and the further the diesel Audi A4 drove, the less of that pressure it held.
The pump sits ahead of your injectors, and so whatever a worn-out one sheds moves downstream with your fuel — which is why we are blunt about not driving on. Call us, and leave your diesel Vauxhall Astra where it's close to Dyserth Community Hall.
Knocking, a lumpy idle, white smoke, a throttle gone limp. That is a misfuelled diesel Ford Kuga telling you what's wrong. Turn off where you have stopped, by Dyserth Lead Mine Ash Tree Shaft or anywhere else, and never restart it to find a better location.
Can our engineers cover your part of Ochr-y-foel?
Dyserth, Cwm, Marian Cwm, Bryniau, Tan-yr-allt — every one of them on our trips that take us over to Ochr-y-foel itself, a coastal area.
If yours is not on the list it doesn't mean we don't come — there are dedicated pages for nearly all towns around Denbighshire, and the ones named above are just the closest neighbours. Ring us and check instead of assuming — county lines above all, and anywhere your satnav can struggle with.
The map outlines the ground the page spans. The lot is ground we work: a roadside, a forecourt, a driveway, a car park. You never move the vehicle anywhere.
Roadside stops around Ochr-y-foel
The opportunity to stop somewhere safe does not come to everyone. Hazards on at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge on Clwyd Avenue since you realised after setting off — our engineers take that call so often that it is the ordinary kind.
Out of the car if it isn't safe to sit there, with it if it is. It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that is the problem: start it up to reach somewhere better and the mixture goes further into the system with every mile covered. Driving on does the vehicle far more harm than our van coming out to a difficult location, and that's no trouble for us.
Already run it? Petrol in a diesel after some miles
under 15 miles from Ochr-y-foel, the Moreton Spur is what counts here. It will often take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is smoke, an uneven idle and power ebbing away — not a neat stop. Misfilled diesels rarely give you one of those.
Don't start it to reposition. Get off at the next sensible exit then turn off. On a longer run — anything close to the under 3 miles to the nearest city — assume the mixture has been through the fuel filter, the pump and your injectors, and tell us when you phone. It alters what our engineers bring.

What our engineers do when our engineers reach you around Ochr-y-foel
- Three things get established before any price — your fuel that got in, the quantity, and if anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.
- We drain your tank of the polluted fuel.
- Our technicians clean your fuel lines and clean the filter, and so what is remaining in the fuel system is not what created the trouble.
- Bleeding your system follows, once clean diesel is in.
- It is started with clean diesel in it, and our engineers check that it is running correctly.
That has the car ready to pull away. All of it is done where your car is, so it never has to go to a garage, and when it has been noticed early, lasting damage is very uncommon.
Ochr-y-foel AdBlue removal is a different problem
If what went in was AdBlue rather than petrol, the opening instruction is unchanged — don't start the vehicle — but this issue is not. Weakened diesel, and no protection left for the system that relies on it. That's petrol. Rust and build-up are what a diesel tank gets instead, as AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.
Usually the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story sits on its own Ochr-y-foel page. Both are ours to handle.
Paying for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain in Ochr-y-foel
We cannot put one price on this page truthfully, because the job is not one job. What changes it:
- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.
- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.
- Which went in: petrol or AdBlue.
- Where is it? And can a van reach it and work there sensibly?
The vehicle, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm rather than as a range. Not urgent, with the vehicle at home and going nowhere? Then works.
Questions our technicians get about petrol in diesel around Ochr-y-foel
Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Ochr-y-foel?
Plenty of what our engineers do takes place nowhere else. So yes. We visit Sainsbury's and the other forecourts locally regularly, with the owner's permission — tell us which one you are at when you call and we'll tell you whether our technicians can work there.
A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?
Ratio decides it rather than litres — and more than either, whether the engine has run. Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a separate matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that determines how much work is needed is whether that mix has been pulled through the system.
Already driven it with petrol in the diesel? What then?
Switch off somewhere safe, then keep it that way after you stop. Not restarting it is the single most useful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the problem out of your tank and into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays fixable a lot more often than drivers assume.
Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties
A drain and flush carried out properly is not an alteration and doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty. Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one, which is another reason to leave it switched off.
Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?
Two-stroke oil solves a distinct problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol thinned. No. Your pump still has to live with it, because your tank still has petrol in it later.
Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?
There is no need to bring it to a main dealer, because our technicians drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.
Waiting next to it?
The motor remains off.
Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, switch off, and no restarting the car after that. Cold, parked, going nowhere: that is the best position to be in. People fear this a lot more than they need to.
