Petrol in Diesel

Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Patricroft?

If you have not fired up the motor yet, do not. A fuel drain and nothing more is nearly always what a motor requires while the fuel is still sitting in that tank and the motor has not been started, which is why it is the following few minutes that matter, not how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel travels to the car wherever it has stopped in Patricroft or the remainder of Greater Manchester, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, and drains and flushes it there. One call our way will be sufficient: our team will show you what follows after this. Do that right away.

What now? Petrol in a diesel, in order

  • Feed a petrol engine diesel and it will typically not run at all, so the motorist stops there and so does the wear. Give a diesel petrol and the engine starts, it idles, it moves off — all right for a couple of miles. Drivers have that backwards, which is the thing they get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. So do not start it. And having started, don't believe it: your fuel system is wearing as you drive.
  • Turning the car's ignition on commonly primes the system, and priming is what draws petrol out of your tank and into your pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps greased on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol handles the burning and none of the protecting. Leave your ignition off.
  • That guidance presumes a diesel fuel system accepts petrol by percentage. It will not. Pour diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you get is a larger tank of the same mix. And no, the grade makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.
  • We would much rather travel to a tricky place than have it started — so if you safely can, stay put. Nothing is quicker to handle than a motor that has never moved. On the verge on Station Road, that means hazards on then keep the car.
  • Our van turning up instead of circling rests on two things: a postcode that starts M30 0, and whatever is closest to you with a name on it. Have both prepared before you ring.
  • Three details shape your whole visit: the liquid you put in, the approximate volume of it, plus if anything has been running since. Our line is 0333 366 0103.

Nothing about the hours since has lost you anything. Fuel in a tank is harmless, so a diesel Volkswagen Golf parked outside the nearest station this morning is no worse at five than it was at nine — what sucked weakened diesel through your pump was the run in. Ring us before you go to fetch it.

We're in car parks like the one outside Asda often, and it's hardly ever the fuel that complicates them. It is that bay. Cars both sides. Trolleys stacked up behind. At times a height limit at the entrance, which decides whether a van gets to you at all. So tell us how penned in you are when you call, and which way your car is pointing. If there's no clearance to work beside your BMW 3 Series, we move it without your engine. That is not fussiness over a couple of seconds: starts prime things, blend comes out of your tank toward the pump, and a car moved twice for a nicer bay is silently a worse job than one nobody touched.

Twenty to nine outside Christ Church CofE Primary School, already late, and the receipt in your hand shows unleaded. Hazards on, engine off, ring us. Three miles in the Mercedes C-Class seems like nothing, but a diesel pump delivers fuel to demand — and a frantic morning drive asks for plenty.

The components that should be getting lubricated are wearing down instead, and your car gives no sign of that: a diesel on a diluted tank fires up and drives off quite happily. Try the drive home from The Bridgewater? No. Call us and leave the Dacia Duster where it stands.

Cleared, not emptied — that's what a diesel Peugeot 2008 which got as far as Tha Castle needs. Running a diesel puts the mixture into the filter, the lines, the pump and its rail, none of which empties with the tank, and so by now that tank holds the smaller part of the damage.

Mobile fuel drain van at a diesel car in Patricroft

At a forecourt: draining petrol from a diesel

Most of the work starts at the pump, which means a large part of it gets finished on site. We operate on petrol station forecourts routinely, with the site's permission, so if you're still at Esso that's typically where the drain takes place.

At a garage, the mistake gets stopped with your engine never started, and nowhere else manages it. The few seconds between seeing the till receipt and reaching for the key decide how much needs flushing. Everywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — the car was started and moved to get there, so fuel was drawn from your tank, through the filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump. That means the lines and your filter require rinsing as well as your tank. It is not a catastrophe, and our technicians can still sort it out where the car sits.

Push it out of the way if the attendants suggest it, and they normally will. The next driver gets through the pump, and that is worth doing. Moving the car four spaces doesn't merit firing the motor.

Places our vans serve near Patricroft

Patricroft is a residential suburb, so we head out to the town and to the places near it on the same trips: Winton, Barton upon Irwell, Monton, Peel Green and Eccles.

We do come. Those places above are merely the nearest neighbours, and a page exists for most towns around Greater Manchester, and so an absence from the list is not an absence from the coverage. Contact us and ask rather than guessing, particularly if you are on the border or somewhere a satnav struggles with.

Check the map for the ground covered here. The lot is territory our technicians work: a kerbside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You do not move your vehicle anywhere.

Stranded by the kerb anywhere in Patricroft?

The chance to stop somewhere suitable does not come to everyone. If you worked it out after setting off and landed on the verge on Liverpool Road, or at a lay-by somewhere with your hazards on, that is a normal call for us instead of a rare one.

Clear of the car while it is not wise to be in it, with it if it is. Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that mixture further into the fuel system — and oblige it frequently will, which is why your motor doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier. Driving on does the car far more harm than our van driving out to a tricky location, and that's no bother for us.

Already run it? Petrol in a diesel after a few miles

Here is where your M602 counts, under a mile from Patricroft. It will frequently get you onto it, and some way along, before you spot a thing. Then it is smoke, a lumpy idle and power ebbing away — not a clean stop. Misfuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.

The next safe exit is the one to take. Switch off there, then leave the restarting alone. On a longer trip — anything near the under 3 miles to the closest city — take it the contamination has been through the filter, the pump and your injectors, and tell us when you ring. It changes what we bring.

About Patricroft

Patricroft is a suburban area in Greater Manchester, situated on the riverside at an elevation of around 30 metres. Patricroft lies close to the city of Salford, approximately 2.5 miles away, and is near other local places such as Winton, Barton upon Irwell, and Monton. Patricroft has a population of around 11,593 people and is characterised by its predominantly terraced housing stock.

Once our technicians get to you in Patricroft: what follows

  • The answers alter the work, which is why our technicians ask before pricing: what was put in, how much of it, and whether the motor has run.
  • We empty that tank of the polluted mixture.
  • What is remaining in the system should not be what started the problem, and so your fuel lines get rinsed and your filter cleaned.
  • Our technicians put new diesel in and prime the system.
  • After it's started, our engineers make sure it runs correctly on new diesel.

That leaves your car ready to drive away. Everything is done where your car is, so it never needs to be taken to a garage, and when it has been spotted soon, long-term damage is very rare.

AdBlue in a diesel tank in Patricroft is a distinct problem

AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the opening step is unchanged — your motor stays off — whereas this issue beneath it's a separate one altogether. Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and strips out the protection the system depends on. AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it causes corrosion and residue in its place.

Both are ours. There's a separate Patricroft page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.

What a petrol-in-diesel drain will cost in Patricroft

We cannot put one price on this page frankly, since this job isn't one job. What shifts it:

  • Whether the engine has been started or driven. This is the key one.
  • The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.
  • The type of liquid in the tank, petrol or AdBlue.
  • Where the car is, and whether our van can sensibly reach and work on it.

The vehicle, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back clear instead of as a range. Vehicle at home, going nowhere, nothing urgent about it — is fine for that.

Things our engineers hear about petrol in diesel around Patricroft

I'm on a forecourt in Patricroft. Can you drain the car here?

Much of what our engineers do gets done nowhere else. So yes. Tell us which one you're at when you call and we will tell you if we can work there. With the station's permission we work at Texaco and the other forecourts locally regularly.

Is there a safe amount of petrol in a diesel?

Litres aren't the yardstick. Ratio is, and a lot more than either, it counts if anything has been run. What decides how much work is required is whether that blend has been pulled through your fuel system — because though five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one, either way that is the question.

Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it

Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and leave it off. Driving is what shifts the problem from that tank into your pump and injectors — but it is recoverable far more frequently than drivers expect, and the single most valuable thing you can do now isn't restart the car.

Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

No. Carried out properly, emptying and rinsing is no modification at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is unaffected by it. Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause a dispute with one, which is another reason to leave it switched off.

Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?

Two-stroke oil solves a distinct problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No. Later on? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to live with the stuff.

Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

Wherever your car is, our engineers drain and clean it there, so a drive to the main dealer does not come into it.

Still with your vehicle?

Do not switch it back on.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere safe, turn off, then let the car remain that way. Cold and parked, a motor is in the best position available — and people fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.
