Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Pendre? Don't Start It
Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled cars where they are, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, all over Pendre and the remainder of Ceredigion. The first thing to do is not to fire up the motor. While your engine has not turned over and the petrol is still sitting in that tank, a fuel drain is almost always all it requires, and the coming few minutes settle that, not how much was put in. One ring to us is sufficient: our technicians shall tell you what follows after this. Try that straight away.
Your next five steps: petrol in a diesel
- Never crank it. Started regardless? Then never depend on it. Diesel in a petrol motor usually can't run, so the motorist stops and the damage ends with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It moves off happily, for several miles. Drivers get that backwards. It's not fine — that fuel system is grinding every mile you cover.
- Switching your ignition on frequently primes that system, and priming is what moves petrol out of the tank then into the pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps greased on its way through, before it combusts. Petrol handles the burning and none of the oiling. Leave the ignition alone.
- Do not thin it. Diesel put on top gets rid of nothing, so all you have is more of what was already there, because percentage is not how a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol. Super unleaded? Just petrol. The octane makes no difference.
- Stay put if it's wise to. Hazards on, ignition off, keep the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Cwrt yr Onnen, anywhere — a difficult place for us beats a started diesel, and nothing is simpler for us to handle than a motor that never moved.
- Know where you are before phoning. A postcode beginning SY23 3, and the name of whatever is nearest to you. Otherwise the technician circles rather than turning up.
- Phone 0333 366 0103. Expect three things — what got in, roughly how many litres, and whether the engine has been run. The answers settle everything that comes after.
Call us before you fetch the vehicle. Petrol into a diesel Volkswagen Tiguan this morning, and the vehicle outside Aberystwyth ever since? Then the afternoon has taken nothing from you: fuel in a tank is inert, and any harm was done on the drive in, when the pump was pulling diesel that petrol had thinned.
Petrol in your BMW 3 Series, and it takes diesel? Shopping in the boot, you at Morrisons, somewhere in Pendre? Then ring us, and leave the motor out of it — not even to get out of that bay. Somebody gets to you. Tank cleared, fuel lines purged, fresh diesel in, and home you go. Easy throttle over a mile draws very little, so these tend to be the easy cases.
Three answers determine most of the work: what was put in, approximately how much, and whether your engine has run since. We ask for those answers as soon as we reach the car in the car park at Gogerddan Arms. After that the polluted mixture comes out of your tank, the fuel lines are flushed, and where your Audi A4 has a replaceable filter, it comes off. Once clean diesel is in and the fuel system primed, we start it and make sure it runs correctly before you set off.
About as well as this goes, once your engine has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and the diesel Vauxhall Astra left near St Padarn's Church barely two streets on. Call us, and leave it off. A short hop does genuinely help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, so the fuel filter and your pump have had weakened fuel through them — hence flushing your lines instead of only clearing that tank.
Turn off where you have stopped, and never restart it to find somewhere better — by Waunfawr Community Hall or anywhere at all. Rattling, a ragged idle, white smoke and a dead throttle are a wrongly fuelled diesel Ford Kuga telling you what is wrong.
On a forecourt: clearing petrol from your diesel
Pumps are where the job usually kicks off, and where a large portion of it ends. The drain generally gets done right there. Still on the forecourt at Texaco? Given the site's permission, that is a place our engineers work, and routinely.
At a garage, the mistake gets caught with the motor never run, and no place else does it. Everywhere else — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — the vehicle was switched on and moved to get there, which means fuel was drawn from your tank, through the fuel filter then into your high-pressure pump. That's not a calamity, and our engineers can still sort it out where it sits. It does mean the fuel lines and your filter need cleaning as well as the tank, and that's decided by the few seconds between checking the till receipt and going for the keys.
The attendants will generally help you roll the car away from the pump so the next motorist can get through. That's worth doing. Rolling it four bays doesn't justify firing the engine.
Service in Pendre
As a residential suburb, Pendre has a frequent visit, and the places round about come along on the same round: Pwllhobi and Llanbadarn Fawr, Glanrafon and Waun Fawr, Penparcau.
Our engineers still come. The places above are just the nearest neighbours, and a page is there for most towns around Ceredigion, so an absence from the list isn't an absence from our coverage. Ring us to check rather than assuming — boundaries especially, and anywhere your satnav may struggle with.
The map marks the patch the page covers. Roadside, forecourt, private drive, car park: all of it is territory our engineers work on, and none of that needs the vehicle to travel to us.
Pendre: broken down where you parked
The chance to stop somewhere sensible doesn't fall to everyone. Hazards flashing at a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge of Brynrheidol because you realised after setting off — our engineers take that call regularly enough that it's the usual kind.
Clear of the vehicle while it isn't safe to sit there, by it when it is. Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol drags that mix further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why your motor does not get restarted to limp somewhere safer. However difficult the spot, it is no trouble for us to come to it, and that is a lot better for the car than driving on.
Driven it already? Pull in, then read this
Here is where the M4 comes into it — under 50 miles from Pendre. A misfuelled diesel will usually take you onto it and some way along before anything seems wrong, while the symptoms when they come are usually a loss of power, a rough idle and smoke rather than a neat stop.
Never start it to move it. Get off at the next sensible junction and switch off. Suppose the worst of it on a long drive. Anything close to the over 50 miles to the closest city, and the mixture has been through the filter, through your pump, through your injectors. Tell us when you phone. What we bring differs.

Our call-out around Pendre, step by step
- Three things get checked before any quote — your fuel that went in, the quantity, and if anything has been run since. Each answer alters the work.
- Out goes the contaminated fuel.
- Lines cleaned, filter cleaned. Whatever remains later on isn't the thing that caused the trouble.
- Bleeding your system follows, once clean diesel is in.
- Your engine is turned on and checked to confirm it runs properly on new diesel.
Your car is then ready for you to drive away. Permanent damage is very unusual when it has been caught soon, and since everything is done where your car is, it never needs to go to a workshop.
Pendre AdBlue removal is a different problem
The problem isn't the same, though the opening rule is — never fire it up — if what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol. Diluted diesel, and no lubrication left for your fuel system that relies on it. That is petrol. AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus residue.
Usually the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Pendre page. Both are ours to deal with.
What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain costs around Pendre
What shifts the figure is listed below, because this job is not one job and we cannot truthfully put a single number on this page.
- This is the main one: whether your motor has been run, or driven.
- Wrong fuel in, against what your tank holds — that ratio.
- AdBlue or petrol, whichever went in.
- Where is it? And can our van get to it and work there safely?
The vehicle, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back clear rather than as a range. Not pressing, with the car at home and going nowhere? Then does the job.
Pendre drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel
At a petrol station in Pendre, can you do a fuel drain there?
Yes — forecourts are where a good portion of this takes place. Tell us which one you're at when you call and we'll tell you if we can work there. With the owner's consent our technicians attend Morrisons and the other forecourts nearby regularly.
How much petrol in a diesel is too much?
It hinges on the ratio rather than the litres, and a lot more on whether the motor has run. What settles how much work is needed is whether that blend has been pulled through the fuel system — because though five litres in an almost empty tank is a separate case from five in a full one, either way that's the question.
I put petrol in my diesel and drove the car. Now what?
Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that. Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does shift the problem out of that tank and into your pump and injectors, yes, and it stays recoverable far more often than drivers fear.
My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?
It isn't a change, and so a drain then flush carried out properly does not cancel a manufacturer's warranty. Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one, which is another reason to leave it turned off.
Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home
No. It belongs to a distinct problem from a bygone era, and petrol has weakened something no oil of that kind puts back. Petrol stays in that tank after that, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.
A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — needed?
Wherever the car is, our engineers drain and flush it there, so a trip to the main dealer doesn't come into it.
Waiting next to it?
Leave the engine shut off.
Switch it off somewhere safe then keep it off, if you have already driven it. Cold and still, a motor is in the best place available — and drivers fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.
