Petrol in a Diesel Car in Platt

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled vehicles where they are, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, all over Platt and the remainder of Kent. The very first thing to do is not to fire up your engine. When the engine has not been started and the petrol is still sitting in that tank, a fuel drain is nearly always all it needs, and the coming few minutes decide that, not how much went in. Ring us before anything else starts, so you will learn what happens after that.

What to do next about petrol in a diesel

  • As you drive, the pump and your injectors wear down. This is why you never start the car, and why you never trust it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel especially — the part most people get wrong — is that it drives away fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor usually cannot run at all, which stops the person and stops the damage with them. This one lets you drive on.
  • Leave the car's ignition alone as well. Diesel has two jobs: it ignites, and before it ignites it protects your high-pressure fuel pump and those injectors. Petrol handles the first and not the second. Turning the car's ignition on is usually sufficient to prime your system, which moves that petrol out of the tank and into exactly those components.
  • Never pour diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system does not handle petrol by percentage as that advice presumes, and topping up removes nothing — it merely hands you a bigger tank of the same mix. The grade makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.
  • Stay where you are if you safely can. A motor that has never moved is the easiest one to sort out, and our team would sooner travel to a tricky place than have it started. If you are stopped on the verge on Long Mill Lane, switch the hazards on and keep the vehicle there.
  • Before you call, get your whereabouts. Anything next to you with a name on it, plus a postcode starting TN15 8 — that's what settles whether the van turns up or circles.
  • Phone 0333 366 0103. Expect three queries — what got in, roughly how many litres, and whether the car has been run. Your answers determine everything that follows.

Pump-side drains for petrol in a diesel

Much of this work starts at a forecourt, meaning a large part of that ends up done at one. Still at Esso? Then that is typically where it takes place. Garage forecourts are normal for us, with the permission of the site.

At a forecourt, this is stopped with the engine never started, and nowhere else does that. Anywhere else — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — your car was started and driven to get there, which means fuel was sucked from that tank, through your filter and into your high-pressure pump. That's not a calamity, and our engineers can still put it right where it is. It does mean the lines and the fuel filter need flushing as well as that tank, and that is settled by the few seconds between reading the receipt and going for the keys.

Clear of the petrol pump, the next customer can get by — so yes, let the attendants help you move the car. Worth it. Moving it four spaces does not merit cranking the motor.

Mobile fuel drain van at a diesel car in Platt

If you have put petrol in the diesel Ford Focus around Platt and you are now stranded outside Co-op Food with a boot loaded with shopping, phone us. Do not crank it a second time to exit that spot. Our technicians will get to you, drain your tank, rinse the fuel lines then put fresh diesel in so you can drive away. A mile or so at gentle throttle uses very little diesel, which is why those are often the easy jobs.

Three answers determine most of the work: what went in, roughly how much, and whether your engine has run since. We ask for those answers as soon as we reach the vehicle in the car park outside Blue Anchor. Next the tainted blend comes out of that tank, the fuel lines are flushed, and where your Audi A6 has a replaceable filter, it comes off. Once fresh diesel is in and the fuel system primed, our engineers fire it up and make sure it runs correctly before you set off.

Nothing is getting worse while it waits. Whatever the diesel Mercedes A-Class did on the way to St George's Field, it's doing none of that now: the pump isn't turning. So take your time — but never drive it home to buy yourself any.

Off the forecourt, receipt read, a couple of hundred yards, parked close to St. Mary's. For a diesel Skoda Superb whose engine has turned, that's about the best version there is. Phone us, then let the vehicle stand with the ignition alone. Short assists, truly — but a start is a start and a drive is a drive, and the filter has had weakened fuel through it, and so has the pump. Which is why your lines get rinsed and not just that tank cleared.

Petrol in a diesel does its damage as a ratio, which is the reason our engineers ask at all: the same few litres waiting in a nearly empty tank make a far stronger mix than they would in a full one. And petrol is rated on how well it resists igniting under pressure — the opposite of what a diesel wants — so a stronger mix knocks more, smokes more, goes flatter. None of which means you need an answer prepared. Nearly no one knows how full the tank was in a car collected two days ago, and our technicians work that out on the spot. Do phone the hire or company firm first, though: some agreements want them to approve the work, and that is far quicker settled before than after. Then call us about the BMW X3 close to Borough Green Library.

Can our engineers reach your end of Platt?

Platt is a rural village, so our team get out to it and to the places around it on those same trips: Borough Green, Comp, Crouch, Claygate Cross and Wrotham Heath.

There are separate pages for nearly all locations in Kent, and the ones mentioned above are simply the closest neighbours — so yours being left off that list says nothing about if we come. Contact us and enquire instead of assuming — borders above all, and wherever your phone may get wrong.

Use the map for the area covered here. The lot is territory our engineers work: a roadside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You don't bring your vehicle anywhere.

Platt: stranded wherever you pulled up

Not everyone has the opportunity to pull in anywhere suitable. If you noticed after setting off and finished up by the verge beside Grange Road, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards on, that's a normal call for us instead of an odd one.

Out of the vehicle when it's not safe to sit there, beside it if it is. Do not fire it up to reach a safer place. It'll go — a diesel on petrol normally obliges — and each mile of obliging pulls that blend deeper into your fuel system. A technician driving to an awkward location is no bother for us, and it is far better for your car than driving on.

So you've run it? Petrol in a diesel over a few miles

Here is where the M26 matters, under a mile out of Platt. It will usually take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it's some smoke, an uneven idle and power ebbing away — not a clean stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Do not restart it to move it. Get off at the next sensible exit and switch off. It changes what we bring, and so tell us when you phone: on a longer trip — anything close to the under 25 miles to the closest city — take it the petrol has been through your filter, your pump and the injectors.

Platt itself

Platt is a small village in Kent, situated inland at an elevation of around 97 metres. Platt lies within the commuter belt, approximately 24.6 miles from London, and is near the villages of Borough Green, Comp, and Crouch. Platt has a population of around 953 residents, predominantly living in detached houses.

What we do when our technicians reach you around Platt

  • Our technicians check what went in, how much, and whether your engine has run. The replies shape the work, which is why our technicians ask before giving a price.
  • Our technicians drain the tank of all the contaminated fuel.
  • We flush the fuel lines and clear the filter, and so what is left in the system isn't what caused the problem.
  • Fresh diesel goes in, and then the fuel system gets primed.
  • Our technicians turn it on and check it runs properly on fresh diesel.

The car is then ready for you to pull away. There's no need for a workshop at any stage, since the work is all done where your car is, and when it's spotted soon, long-term damage is very uncommon.

Platt AdBlue removal is a separate problem

The issue is not the same, though the opening instruction is — do not fire it up — if what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol. Petrol does two things to diesel: thins it, and takes away the protection the fuel system depends on. Corrosion and residue are what a diesel tank gets instead, since AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

Often the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the full story sits on its own Platt page. Both are ours to handle.

Platt costs for a petrol-in-diesel drain

Truthfully, no single figure fits on a page like this. This job differs. Here's what moves it:

  • Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.
  • The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.
  • Whether it was unleaded or AdBlue.
  • Whether a technician can safely reach the vehicle and work on it, which rests on where your car is.

Tell us what the vehicle is, how much went in, and if your engine has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range. For the car at home that's going nowhere and isn't urgent, is fine too.

Petrol in diesel queries from Platt motorists

Fuel drains on a Platt petrol station forecourt

Yes, and it's where a good part of this work gets done. Agreement from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like Shell is somewhere we are regularly, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the phone and you will hear if working there's possible.

How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

It depends on the proportion rather than the litres, and a lot more on whether your engine has run. Five litres in an almost empty tank is a separate matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that decides how much work is required is whether that mix has been drawn through the fuel system.

Already driven it with petrol in the diesel? What now?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and leave it off. Driving is what takes the trouble from your tank into the pump and injectors — but it is fixable far more regularly than drivers assume, and the single most useful thing you can do now isn't restart the car.

Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty outlasts a drain then flush done to a proper standard, which is no modification at all. An argument over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?

No. It belongs to a separate problem from a separate era, and petrol has diluted something no oil of that kind puts back. Your pump still has to cope with it, because your tank still has petrol in it later on.

A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — needed?

No. Our engineers drain and flush the car wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a dealership.

Waiting next to it?

That engine remains off.

If you have already driven it, pull in somewhere sensible, switch it off then leave it off. Cold and stationary, a vehicle is in the best position available — and drivers fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.
