Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Priory?
If you have not turned on the motor yet, do not. A drain and nothing more is nearly always what a motor requires while the fuel is still inside that tank and the engine has not been started, which is why it is the coming few minutes that matter, not how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel goes to the car wherever it has stopped in Priory or the remainder of Pembrokeshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, and drains and cleans it there. A single call to us is sufficient: our team will explain what happens from here. Try this right away.
What next? Petrol in a diesel, step by step
- Whenever you drive, the pump and your injectors wear down. That is why you don't start it, and why you never believe it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel especially — the bit drivers get wrong — is that it drives off happily for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine normally cannot run at all, which stops the person and stops the wear with them. This one lets you carry on.
- Leave the car's ignition be also. Diesel has two tasks: it ignites, and before it combusts it greases your high-pressure fuel pump and its injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Flicking the ignition on is frequently sufficient to prime the system, which carries this petrol out of the tank then into precisely those parts.
- That guidance presumes a diesel fuel system copes with petrol by percentage. It will not. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is removed; what you have is a fuller tank of the same blend. And no, the type makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.
- A car that hasn't moved is the easiest one to deal with, and so stay where you are if you safely can. Parked on the verge on Cromwell Road? Hazards on, and leave it there. A difficult place works for us better than a started diesel.
- Have your position prepared before you call. A postcode that starts SA73 3 and whatever is next to you with a sign on it is the difference between a van arriving and our van circling.
- Phone 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three questions — what was put in, approximately how many litres, plus whether the motor has been started. The responses settle whatever comes after.
Do not drive it home. Petrol-thinned diesel has gone through your injection pump in real quantity on the drive in, and the way back would more or less double that for nothing at all. Ring us — the platform is okay. There is no need to stand over that Volkswagen Passat outside Milford Haven whilst the work gets done, and we'd very much rather talk to you tonight than discover on Monday.
A diesel pump meters fuel on demand, and a rushed morning run demands plenty — so three miles in your Mercedes C-Class sounds like nothing and is not. Twenty to nine at the gates of the local primary school, running late, a receipt in your hand saying unleaded: hazards on, motor off, call us.
Off the forecourt, receipt read, a few hundred yards, left by Milford Haven Leisure Centre. For a diesel Kia Sportage whose engine has turned, that's about the best version there is. Call us, then let the car stand with your ignition alone. Short assists, genuinely — but a start is a start and a drive is a drive, and your filter has had diluted fuel through it, and so has your pump. Which is why the fuel lines get cleaned and not just that tank cleared.
Authorisation first, where there's a hire firm or a company behind your car — some contracts require it, and settling that beforehand saves a great deal of time later. After that, ring us about your diesel Peugeot 2008 near Thornton Hall. You'll not know how full the tank was. Barely anybody does, two days into a motor, and it gets worked out on site anyway. Our engineers ask since the damage petrol does in a diesel is proportional: a couple of litres in an almost empty tank make a much stronger blend than the same few in a full one, and since petrol is designed to resist igniting under pressure, which is exactly what a diesel relies on, the stronger it gets the more your engine knocks and smokes and flattens off.
By now your tank is the least of that. Run a diesel and that mixture goes into the fuel filter, into the lines, into your pump, into the rail — and none of that leaves with the tank contents. A diesel Hyundai Tucson that got close to Saint Francis Roman Catholic Church needs its system flushed. Clearing isn't the same thing.
Removing petrol from the diesel on a forecourt
A good portion of this job ends up done at a forecourt, as that's where it mostly starts. If you're still at the forecourt at Tesco, that's normally where this drain gets done — our technicians work on petrol station forecourts all the time, with the site's agreement.
Before the motor has fired — a garage is the one setting it gets stopped. Our technicians can still put it right where it is, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, the car has been fired up and driven there, and that pulled fuel through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, right from your tank. None of that is a catastrophe, but the flush then has to go past your tank to your lines and the filter, and the few seconds between seeing the receipt and going for the keys are what decide that.
The staff will usually help you move the car away from the pump so the next motorist can get past. It is worth doing. Four car lengths is not worth a restart.
Parts we cover in Priory
Thornton, Liddeston, Milford Haven, Hubberston, Steynton — each of them on our trips that carry us out to Priory as well, a residential suburb.
There are pages for the majority of places across Pembrokeshire, and the ones mentioned above are simply the immediate neighbours — so yours being left off this list means nothing whatsoever about if our engineers come. Ring us to check rather than presuming, above all when you are on a border or anywhere a satnav can't find.
See our map for the ground covered on this page. All of it is ground we serve: a kerbside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You don't bring your car anywhere.
Stuck at the roadside near Priory
Not everybody gets the opportunity to pull in anywhere suitable. Hazards on in a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge of Thornton Road because you realised after setting off — our technicians take that call regularly enough that it's the ordinary kind.
Stay beside your car if it is wise to be in it, yet clear of it when it is not. Never start up your engine to limp the vehicle somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will frequently oblige, and every mile it obliges for is dragging the mix further into your fuel system. However difficult the spot, it's no problem for us to come to it, and that is much better for your car than driving on.
Driven it already? Pull over, and see below
The M4 is the road which counts now, and it sits under 50 miles from Priory. A misfilled diesel will frequently take you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong, and the signs when they come are normally a loss of power, a rough idle and smoke instead of a clean stop.
The first sensible junction is the one to take. Turn off there, and leave the restarting alone. Assume the worst of that on a long trip. Anything near the under 15 miles to the closest city, and the petrol has been through the filter, through the pump, through your injectors. Mention it when you call. What our technicians bring alters.
All about Priory
Priory is a coastal suburban area in Pembrokeshire, situated near the towns of Milford Haven and St Davids. Priory sits at a low elevation of around 20 metres, overlooking the coastline of western Wales. Priory is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its residential nature.
Once our engineers get to you in Priory: what follows
- Three things get asked before any price — your fuel that went in, the amount, and whether anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.
- Out flows the tainted mixture.
- Lines flushed, filter cleaned. Whatever remains later isn't the thing that created the trouble.
- The fuel system gets primed, on fresh diesel.
- Once it's fired up, our technicians confirm it runs smoothly on clean diesel.
Your car is then ready for you to drive away. Long-term damage is very rare when it has been noticed early, and as all of it is done where the car is, it never has to be taken to a garage.
Priory AdBlue removal is a different matter
The issue isn't the same, though the first rule is — never start it — if what was put in was AdBlue rather than petrol. Petrol weakens the diesel and removes the lubrication the fuel system relies on. Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that leads to rust and deposits.
Both are ours. There's a separate Priory page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.
What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain will cost in Priory
Our technicians can't put one number on this page frankly, because this job isn't one job. What moves it:
- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.
- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.
- Which got in: unleaded or AdBlue.
- Where your car is, and whether a technician can sensibly get to and work on it.
A firm answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: the car, the quantity, and whether it has run. Motor at home, going nowhere, nothing time-critical about it — is ideal for that.
Questions our engineers get about petrol in diesel in Priory
Fuel drains on a Priory petrol station forecourt
Much of what we do takes place nowhere else. So yes. Tell us which one you are at when you ring and we will tell you whether we can work there. With the site's agreement our technicians attend another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts nearby regularly.
How much petrol is too much for a diesel?
Litres are not the yardstick. Proportion is, and far more than either, it counts if anything has been run. What decides how much work is needed is if that blend has been sucked through the system — since although five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different situation from five in a full one, either way that's the query.
Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? What then?
Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that. It's fixable much more commonly than people fear, even though driving is what shifts the problem from your tank into the pump and injectors — and the single most valuable thing you can do now isn't restart it.
Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain and flush done to a correct standard, which is no modification at all. A disagreement over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.
Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home
No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a distinct issue and it doesn't put back what petrol has thinned. Your pump still has to live with it, because your tank still has petrol in it after that.
Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?
Wherever the car is, our engineers drain and clean it there, so a drive to the main dealer does not come into it.
Is the car still with you?
Your engine remains off.
Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, turn off, and no restarting it after that. Cold and still, a vehicle is in the best place available — and motorists fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.
Emptying wrongly fuelled vehicles, Priory and the rest of Pembrokeshire, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
