Petrol in a Diesel Car in Providence Place
Never turn on the engine. If the fuel is still in the tank and your engine has not yet been started, a tank drain is nearly always all it needs — and that's settled in the coming few minutes, not by how much went in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled cars where they are, across Providence Place and the rest of Somerset, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway. One ring to us will be plenty: we will explain what happens next. Try that first.
Petrol in a diesel: what to do next
- Don't start the vehicle — and do not believe it if it starts. This is the part most people have wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. A petrol motor fed diesel typically just won't run, and so the person stops and the damage stops with them. A diesel filled with petrol typically starts, idles and drives off just fine for a few miles. It's not all right. It's wearing your fuel system while you drive.
- Leave your ignition off also. Diesel performs two jobs: it burns, and before it ignites it protects your injection pump and the injectors. Petrol manages the first and not the second. Switching your ignition on is commonly enough to prime that system, which moves that petrol out of the tank then into precisely those components.
- Don't thin it. Diesel added on top gets rid of nothing, and so all you have is more of what was already there, because percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol. Super unleaded? Still petrol. The type makes no difference.
- Stay put if it's sensible to. Hazards on, motor off, keep the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Redfield Grove, anywhere — a difficult location for us is better than a started diesel, and nothing is simpler for us to sort out than a car that never shifted.
- Keep your whereabouts ready before you call. A postcode starting BA3 2 and whatever is closest to you with a name on it is the difference between our van showing up and our van circling.
- Three replies determine the whole call-out: the fuel you put in, the ballpark amount of it, and if anything has been turning since. Our line is 0333 366 0103.
Don't take it home. The drive in has already put a real volume of petrol-thinned diesel through the high-pressure pump of your Volkswagen Passat, and the trip back would close to double it for no purpose at all. Call us from the platform if that is quicker. We do not need you standing over your car at Oldfield Park while our engineers work, and our team would much rather speak to you tonight than find out on Monday.
The phone call our engineers want sounds like this: diesel Renault Clio, some litres of unleaded, driven a couple of miles, now shut off at Sainsbury's. What we're really asking is how much fuel your pump has drawn — not how long ago it was.
How far, and how hard? The second of those matters more than the first, and so have both ready. The Skoda Octavia will have felt perfectly ordinary on the way back from St John's CofE Primary School — they all do, and that's the snag. Diesel into a petrol vehicle mostly won't run at all: the motorist stops, and so does the wear. Petrol into a diesel fires up, idles, pulls away like nothing happened, whilst your high-pressure pump gets on with its work minus the lubrication the fuel should be giving it. No warning arrives, because behind the wheel nothing looks wrong.
Straightforward job, this one — till someone takes it home. A diesel BMW 3 Series left at Crossways Tavern with petrol in the tank loses nothing by standing there overnight, so leave it and ring us once it's light. Expect a query about the run there, though. Brief and cold is precisely where petrol fails to burn, and what will not burn can slip past the piston rings then into the engine oil.
Authorisation first, where there's a hire firm or a company behind your car — some agreements require it, and settling that beforehand saves a great deal of time later. After that, ring us about the diesel Dacia Duster by Midsomer Norton Children's Centre. You'll not know how full that tank was. Hardly anybody does, two days into a car, and it gets worked out on site all the same. Our technicians ask because the harm petrol does in a diesel is proportional: a few litres in a nearly empty tank make a much stronger mixture than the same few in a full one, and since petrol is built to resist igniting under pressure, which is exactly what a diesel relies on, the stronger it gets the more the engine knocks and smokes and flattens off.
Can petrol be taken from a diesel at the forecourt?
Much of the job begins at the pump, so a big chunk of that is done at one. Still at Esso? Then that is generally where it takes place. Garage forecourts are normal for us, with the permission of the station.
Before your engine has started — a forecourt is the only setting the mistake ends up halted. We can still sort it out where it stands, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, the car has been started and moved there, and that drew fuel through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure pump, all the way from the tank. None of that is a calamity, though the flush then has to reach past that tank to the lines and the fuel filter, and the few seconds between checking the receipt and going for your key are what decide that.
The staff will generally happily wheel it clear of the petrol pump so the next motorist can get through. That is worth doing. Four vehicle lengths is not worth a start.
Coverage near Providence Place
Midsomer Norton, Hayes Park, Hillside, Riverside, Norton Hill — each of these on the runs that bring us out to Providence Place itself, a residential suburb.
Our engineers do come. The places above are only the closest neighbours, and a page exists for nearly all places around Somerset, and so an absence from the list isn't an absence from the coverage. On a border, or anywhere a satnav can't find? Call us and ask rather than presuming.
Use our map for the patch covered on this page. The car doesn't need to move to us. Our technicians work over the lot — kerbside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.
Roadside call-outs around Providence Place
Not everyone finds a sensible spot to pull in. Set off, then noticed? Landed by the verge on Redfield Road, or parked in some lay-by with the hazard lights on? That is a normal call here. Not an odd one.
Clear of the motor if it is not safe to wait inside, with it if it is. Never fire up your engine to limp the car somewhere handier — a diesel running on petrol will frequently oblige, and every mile it obliges for is dragging the mix further into the fuel system. Our van heading to a difficult location is no trouble for us, and it's much better for your car than driving on.
Run it already? Stop, then see below
The local M32 is the road which counts here, and runs under 15 miles from Providence Place. A wrongly fuelled diesel will usually get you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong, and the symptoms when they come are normally a drop in power, an uneven idle and some smoke rather than a clean stop.
Take the first junction that's sensible, pull up there, and never restart the car to move it. Assume the worst of that on a long trip. Anything near the under 10 miles to the closest city, and the mixture has been through your filter, through the pump, through the fuel injectors. Tell us when you phone. What we bring alters.

Once our technicians reach you in Providence Place: what happens
- We check what was put in, how much, and whether your motor has run. The replies alter the work, which is why our engineers ask before quoting.
- Our technicians clear your tank of all the contaminated mixture.
- We flush your fuel lines and clear the fuel filter, so what is left in the fuel system is not what caused the trouble.
- Fresh diesel goes in, and then the fuel system gets primed.
- It is run with fresh diesel in it, and our engineers confirm that it is running smoothly.
That has it ready to set off. Long-term damage is very uncommon when it has been caught early, and because all of this is done where the vehicle is, it never has to go to a garage.
AdBlue in the diesel tank by mistake, around Providence Place?
If what went in was AdBlue rather than petrol, the opening instruction is the same — don't start the vehicle — but this problem isn't. Petrol weakens your diesel and takes away the lubrication the system depends on. AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with the diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus deposits.
Frequently the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the detail lives on its own Providence Place page. Both are ours to handle.
Budgeting for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain around Providence Place
Our engineers cannot put one figure on this page frankly, since this job isn't one job. What moves it:
- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.
- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.
- Whether it's petrol or AdBlue.
- Where is it? And can a van get to it and work there safely?
Tell us your car, the amount and if it has run, and you'll get a straight answer instead of a range. If it isn't urgent — your car is at home and going nowhere — works too.
Petrol in diesel queries from Providence Place drivers
Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Providence Place?
Plenty of what we do happens nowhere else. So yes. Routinely, provided the site agrees: Tesco, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our technicians can work in that spot is something our technicians answer straight away.
A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?
It rests on the ratio instead of the litres, and far more on whether the motor has run. Five litres in an almost empty tank is a distinct situation from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that settles how much work is required is if that mix has been drawn through your fuel system.
I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?
Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and keep it off. It's fixable far more regularly than drivers expect, even though driving is what moves the issue from that tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart it.
Will a fuel drain void my warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty outlasts a drain then flush done to a proper standard, which is no alteration at all. What is likelier to start a dispute is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for the motor to remain off.
Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?
No. It belongs to a distinct issue from a different era, and petrol has weakened something no oil of that kind replaces. Petrol remains in that tank after that, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no respite from it.
Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?
Wherever your car is, we drain and clean it there, so a visit to the main dealer doesn't come into it.
You, and your vehicle, still together?
Never switch the car on again.
Already driven it? Then stop somewhere safe, turn off, then let the vehicle remain that way. A stationary, cold car is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from much more commonly than motorists expect.
