Petrol in a Diesel Car in Springwood

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled cars where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive, throughout Springwood and the rest of Staffordshire. The first thing to do is not to turn on the motor. While the motor has not yet turned over and the petrol is still in the tank, a drain is almost always all it requires, and the coming few minutes settle that, not how much went in. Contact us before all else happens, and you'll hear what happens from there.

What to do now about petrol in a diesel

  • Never fire it up. Turned on all the same? Then do not believe it. Diesel in a petrol motor typically can't run, so the person stops and the wear halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It drives off normally, for a few miles. People get that backwards. It is not fine — your fuel system is wearing down every mile you drive.
  • Flicking the car's ignition on frequently primes that system, and priming is what pulls petrol out of the tank then into the pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps protected on its way through, before it combusts. Petrol manages the burning and none of the oiling. Leave your ignition be.
  • Don't add diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system doesn't cope with petrol by percentage as that advice presumes, and topping up clears nothing — it just leaves you a fuller tank of the same mix. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is just petrol.
  • A car that has not shifted is the simplest one to sort out, and so stay where you are if you safely can. Parked on the verge on Springwood Road? Hazards on, and leave the car there. An awkward spot works for us better than a started diesel.
  • Find out where you are before calling. A postcode starting ST5 6, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the technician circles instead of showing up.
  • Three answers shape the full visit: the stuff you poured in, the approximate measure of it, plus whether it has been running since. The line is 0333 366 0103.

Petrol in a diesel Renault Megane, left outside Longport since this morning? The afternoon has cost you nothing — fuel in a tank is dormant. It was the trip in that pushed thinned diesel through your pump. Ring us before you move it.

Tell us this much and our technicians can work with it: a diesel Volkswagen Tiguan, a few litres of unleaded in it, two miles or so, shut off outside The Co-operative Food now. Time elapsed is not the thing our technicians need. Fuel pulled by the pump is.

Every restart primes the fuel lines and pulls more petrol through the fuel filter then into your pump. So a wrongly fuelled diesel Skoda Octavia on the zig-zags at Crackley Bank Primary School is a hassle, while the same car started three more times to be courteous is a fuel system rather than a tank. A passer-by will tell you to move the vehicle out of that gateway and sort it out later. Please don't. Stay put, let them complain, then give us a call.

Why we are blunt about not driving on: the pump sits before the fuel injectors, and so whatever a worn pump gives off moves onward with the fuel. Leave the Mercedes C-Class close to Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses and call us.

It got a few streets and stopped. The throttle went dead, your idle turned ragged, and the diesel Audi A6 is now waiting by United Reform Church. That softness is your fuel failing to build pressure fully rather than the engine giving up — and as there's no dashboard light for it, motors in that position usually get driven again before somebody phones. Please don't. Turn it off then call us.

Mobile fuel drain van at a diesel car in Springwood

Forecourt draining for petrol in a diesel

A good part of the job gets finished at a pump, as that is where it usually starts. The drain generally takes place right there. Still on the forecourt at Shell? Given the site's consent, that's somewhere we work, and often.

Before the motor has run — the forecourt is the single setting the mistake ends up halted. The few seconds between checking the till receipt and going for your key determine how much needs rinsing. Everywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — the car was switched on and moved to get there, so fuel was pulled from your tank, through the fuel filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump. That means your lines and the filter need cleaning as well as the tank. It's not a catastrophe, and our engineers can still put it right where the car sits.

The attendants will usually offer to push it clear of the pump so the next driver can get by. That is worth doing. Cranking it for four vehicle lengths? Don't.

Coverage near Springwood

Crackley, Butters Green, Wood Lane, Chesterton, Apedale — all of these on the rounds that take us out to Springwood itself, a residential suburb.

Not on this list? It says nothing. The names above are simply the nearest few, and most towns around Staffordshire have a page of their own elsewhere on our site. Guessing is the thing to resist, particularly on the boundary or somewhere your phone struggles. Contact us and check.

That map shows the patch the page includes. Kerbside, forecourt, drive, car park: every bit of it is ground we cover, and none of that requires your vehicle to come to us.

Springwood: broken down wherever you stopped

A chance to pull in anywhere sensible does not fall to everybody. Hazards on at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge of Cedar Road Roundabout because you realised after setting off — we take that call often enough that it's the usual kind.

Sit by your car if it's sensible to be there, yet out of it when it is not. Never start it up to get to a safer place. It'll go — a diesel on petrol usually obliges — and each mile of obliging pulls that blend deeper into your fuel system. We'll bring our van to a difficult place without any trouble, and for your car that is much better than pressing on.

Driven it already? Pull in, and read this

under 3 miles out of Springwood, the local M6 is what matters here. Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfilled diesel will often manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is rarely a tidy stop. Power drains away, the idle goes rough, and there may be some smoke.

The first sensible junction is the one to take. Switch off there, then leave the restarting alone. On a longer run — anything near the under 5 miles to the closest city — take it the petrol has been through your filter, the pump and your injectors, and tell us when you call. It alters what our engineers bring.

Where's Springwood?

Springwood is a suburban area in Staffordshire, situated approximately 4.2 miles from Stoke-on-Trent, and is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock. Springwood sits inland, at an elevation of around 173 metres, and is surrounded by nearby places such as Crackley and Butters Green. Springwood is located in the West Midlands region, about 139.6 miles from London, and has a population of around 1857 residents. Springwood forms part of the wider Stoke-on-Trent urban area, with Wood Lane also nearby.

What follows when our technicians reach you in Springwood

  • We find out what was put in, how much, and if your motor has run. The replies shape the work, which is why our technicians ask before quoting.
  • We clear the tank of all the contaminated mixture.
  • What is left in the system should not be what caused the problem, so your fuel lines get cleaned and the fuel filter cleared.
  • New diesel goes in, and then your system gets primed.
  • The motor is turned on and checked to be sure it runs properly on fresh diesel.

That has it ready to pull away. There is no need for a garage at any stage, because the work is all done where the vehicle is, and when it is caught quickly, long-term damage is very uncommon.

AdBlue in your diesel tank by mistake, around Springwood?

If what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the first rule is unchanged — do not start the car — but the issue is not. Petrol dilutes your diesel and takes away the lubrication your fuel system relies on. Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes rust and deposits.

Both are ours. There is a separate Springwood page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain in Springwood?

One number would not be fair here, since this is not one job. These are the things that shift it:

  • Has it been run or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.
  • How much of the wrong fuel got in, judged against how much the tank takes.
  • AdBlue or unleaded, whichever was put in.
  • Where your car is, and if a van can sensibly get to and work on it.

The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back clear and not as a range. Motor at home, going nowhere, nothing urgent about it — is good for that.

Petrol in diesel queries from Springwood drivers

Fuel drains on a Springwood petrol station forecourt

Much of what our engineers do gets done nowhere else. So yes. We work at Esso and the other forecourts around town regularly, with the owner's permission — tell us which one you're at when you call and we will tell you if our engineers can work there.

How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Whether the motor has run counts a lot more, though the proportion counts too, rather than the litres. Five litres into a nearly dry tank isn't five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that mixture been drawn right through, or has it not?

Already driven it with petrol in the diesel? What then?

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that. Not restarting it is the single most helpful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the trouble out of the tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays fixable much more commonly than drivers assume.

Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

It isn't a change, and so a drain and flush carried out properly doesn't invalidate a manufacturer's warranty. A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

What petrol has diluted isn't replaced by two-stroke oil, which is an old remedy for a different problem. So no. The pump still has to put up with it, since that tank still has petrol in it later.

A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — needed?

There is no need to bring it to a franchised dealer, since we drain and flush your car wherever it is.

You, and the car, still together?

Switched off is how it remains.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, switch off, and no restarting it after that. Cold and still, a motor is in the best position available — and motorists fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Staffordshire and around Springwood: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
