Petrol in Diesel

Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Stargate?

With the tank still carrying the fuel and your engine not yet turned over, nearly every job takes only a drain, so leave the engine off. That outcome is determined in the minutes immediately after filling up, and not by the amount that went in. Throughout Stargate and the rest of Tyne and Wear, Petrol in Diesel drains your car and flushes it where it sits, whether by a roadside, on a driveway or at a forecourt. A single ring to us is sufficient: our engineers can show you what follows after this. Try it right away.

What to do first about petrol in a diesel

  • Whenever you drive, your pump and the fuel injectors wear down. That's why you never fire it up, and why you do not depend on it once it has started. The trick about petrol in a diesel especially — the part most people get wrong — is that it drives off fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor normally won't run at all, which stops the motorist and stops the harm with them. This one lets you carry on.
  • Leave your ignition be also. Diesel performs two tasks: it burns, and before it combusts it lubricates the high-pressure pump and its injectors. Petrol does the first and not the second. Switching the ignition on is frequently sufficient to prime that system, which moves that petrol out of that tank then into just those components.
  • Topping up clears nothing. It gives you a bigger tank of the same blend, since a diesel fuel system will not accept petrol by percentage the way that guidance presumes — so don't add diesel on top to dilute it. Type is immaterial too: super unleaded is petrol.
  • We would rather travel to an awkward location than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is simpler to sort out than a motor that hasn't moved. On the verge on Bishops Drive, that means hazards on then leave the car.
  • Keep your location ready before you call. A postcode beginning NE40 3 and whatever is next to you with a name on it is the difference between the van turning up and the van circling.
  • What was put in, roughly how many litres, plus whether the motor has started — these three answers determine the entire visit. Dial 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

Removing petrol from the diesel on the forecourt

Forecourts are where the job usually begins, and where a big share of that ends. We operate on petrol station forecourts all the time, with the site's consent, and so if you're still at the nearest petrol station that is typically where the drain takes place.

A forecourt is the single setting the mistake gets stopped before the motor has started. The few seconds between reading the till receipt and reaching for the keys decide how much needs flushing. Anywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — your car was fired up and driven to get there, so fuel was pulled from the tank, through the filter and into the high-pressure pump. That means the lines and your filter need cleaning as well as your tank. It's not a calamity, and we can still deal with it where the car is.

Away from the petrol pump, the next motorist can get past — so yes, let the staff help you wheel the car. Well worth doing. Firing the car to roll four car lengths isn't.

Mobile fuel drain van at a diesel car in Stargate

Service in Stargate

Crookhill, Hedgefield, Ryton, Stella, Blaydon Burn — each of these on our journeys that take us out to Stargate too, a residential suburb.

Our engineers still come. Those places above are only the closest neighbours, and a page is there for most locations across Tyne and Wear, and so an absence from the list is not an absence from the coverage. Call us and check instead of presuming — county lines above all, and wherever a satnav tends to struggle with.

Look at our map for the ground shown here. The car doesn't need to travel to us. We operate throughout the lot — roadside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

Twenty to nine. At the gates of Crookhill Community Primary School. Late already, and the till receipt in your hand reads unleaded. Turn the hazards on, leave the motor alone, and phone. You might think three miles is nothing, in the Audi A4 or anything else — except that fuel is delivered to demand, and a run taken in a hurry asks for a great deal of that.

Chance the journey home from The Runhead Bar & Grill? Not a chance. It will start and it will drive off quite happily, which is the trouble — a diesel on a thinned tank runs typically while grinding the components the fuel should be lubricating. Leave the BMW 1 Series and call us.

Sitting still, it gets no worse. Your pump isn't turning, so whatever happened on the way to Path Head Nature Reserve in that diesel Vauxhall Astra is finished happening. Time is yours. Just do not take it home on the engine to find more of it.

Why we're direct about not driving on: your pump waits ahead of the injectors, so whatever a wearing pump sheds passes onward with your fuel. Leave the Mercedes A-Class near Stargate & Crookhill community Centre then phone us.

Knocking? Uneven idle? White smoke, throttle gone limp? That is your misfuelled Volvo XC60, a diesel, saying what's wrong with it. Stop wherever you happen to be, maybe close to Blaydon Cycle Club, then leave the restarting alone.

Broken down at the roadside near Stargate

Not everybody gets a suitable place to pull over. Hazards flashing at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge on Leslie Close as you noticed after setting off — we take that call often enough that it's the usual kind.

Clear of the car if it's not safe to wait in it, with it when it is. Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol pulls the mixture further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why your engine doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier. Carrying on causes your car far more harm than a technician heading out to an awkward place, and that is no problem for us.

Petrol in a diesel, but the vehicle has moved

under 10 miles from Stargate, the Central Motorway East is what matters now. A misfilled diesel will frequently get you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong, while the signs when they appear are typically a drop in power, a rough idle and smoke instead of a tidy stop.

The next sensible junction is the one to take. Turn off there, then leave the restarting alone. It changes what our engineers bring, so say so when you phone: on a longer trip — anything approaching the under 10 miles to the nearest city — assume the contamination has been through the filter, the pump and the fuel injectors.

All about Stargate

Stargate is a suburban area located inland in Tyne and Wear, with an elevation of around 86 metres. Stargate sits approximately 5.6 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne, in close proximity to nearby places such as Crookhill, Hedgefield, and Ryton. Stargate has a population of around 2959 residents, predominantly living in semi-detached housing. Stargate is situated in the North East region of England, about 248.3 miles from London.

What our technicians do when our technicians reach you in Stargate

  • Our technicians ask first, price after. What got in? How much? Has the motor run? Those answers change what the work actually is.
  • We empty that tank of the polluted fuel.
  • Lines rinsed, filter cleared. Whatever remains later on isn't the thing that created the problem.
  • Fresh diesel goes in, and then the system gets primed.
  • When it's turned on, our technicians make sure it runs smoothly on new diesel.

That leaves your car ready to pull away. Long-term damage is very rare when it has been caught early, and as all of this is done where the vehicle is, it never has to go to a garage.

AdBlue in the diesel tank by mistake, around Stargate?

Do not fire it up: that first step holds whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the fault itself. Diluted diesel, and no protection left for the fuel system that depends on it. That's petrol. Rust and deposits are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, because AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

Both are ours. There is a separate Stargate page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

How much is a petrol-in-diesel drain in Stargate?

What changes the figure is laid out below, because this job isn't one job and our engineers can't honestly put a single price on this page.

  • Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.
  • How much of the wrong fuel was put in, judged against how much that tank can hold.
  • Whether it's unleaded or AdBlue.
  • Where your vehicle is, and if a technician can sensibly reach and work on it.

A firm answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: your vehicle, the amount, and whether it has run. If it is not urgent — your car is at home and going nowhere — is fine too.

Things our engineers get about petrol in diesel around Stargate

Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Stargate?

Plenty of what our engineers do takes place nowhere else. So yes. Routinely, provided the site agrees: Shell, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that location is something our technicians answer straight away.

How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Ratio settles it rather than litres — and more than either, whether the motor has run. What determines how much work is required is whether that mix has been pulled through the fuel system — since though five litres in an almost empty tank is a distinct case from five in a full one, either way that's the question.

Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then switch off and keep it off. Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does move the issue out of that tank and into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays fixable much more regularly than motorists expect.

Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a good standard, which is no alteration at all. What is likelier to start an argument is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more good reason for the engine to remain off.

Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?

What petrol has thinned is not put back by two-stroke oil, which is an old workaround for a distinct fault. So no. Petrol stays in that tank later on, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.

Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Wherever the vehicle is, we drain and clean it there, so a drive to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

You, and the vehicle, still together?

Do not turn your engine back on.

If you have already driven the vehicle, stop somewhere sensible, switch it off then keep it off. This is recoverable from much more often than drivers fear, and a stationary, cold motor is the best place to be in.

At the roadside, on the forecourt or at home — on-site fuel draining in Stargate and across Tyne and Wear.
