Stourton: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?
Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled vehicles where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive, across Stourton and the remainder of Staffordshire. The first thing to do is not to turn on the motor. When the motor has not yet been started and the fuel is still in the tank, a fuel drain is nearly always all it takes, and the coming few minutes determine that, not how much was put in. Phone before everything else happens, and you will know what comes next.
Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in turn
- Never fire it up. Turned on regardless? Then do not believe it. Diesel in a petrol vehicle usually won't run, so the motorist stops and the wear halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It pulls away fine, for a few miles. People get that reversed. It isn't okay — that fuel system is wearing every mile you do.
- Leave your ignition off also. Diesel does two jobs: it ignites, and before it combusts it greases that injection pump and those injectors. Petrol handles the first and not the second. Switching the car's ignition on is commonly enough to prime that system, which carries that petrol out of your tank and into just those parts.
- Do not thin it. Diesel poured on top gets rid of nothing, and so all you have is more of what was already there, since percentage is not how a diesel fuel system copes with petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The octane makes no difference.
- A vehicle that hasn't moved is the quickest one to sort out, so wait where you are if you sensibly can. Stopped on the verge on Bridgnorth Road? Hazards on, and keep the car there. A tricky spot works for us better than a started engine.
- A van showing up rather than circling rests on two things: a postcode that starts DY7 5, and whatever is nearest to you with a name on it. Have both ready before you dial.
- What got in, about how much, and also if the car has run — these three answers decide your whole visit. Ring 0333 366 0103 then tell us.
Quarter past eight, a fast fill on the trip in, and you realise around eleven — by which time your diesel Renault Megane has been standing at Stourbridge Town for three hours. Phone then leave the car just where it is. The run in is the thing that counts here, as diesel has two roles on its way through the engine: it combusts, and before it burns it lubricates the high-pressure pump and the injectors. Petrol handles the first and not the second. So those few miles were driven with your pump working on a liquid that had lost a lot of the protection it is made for — which is why the thing we ask is how many miles you drove, not how long your vehicle has been stood.
The call our engineers like goes like this: diesel Volkswagen Passat, a couple of litres of unleaded, run a couple of miles, now shut off at Spar. What we are truly asking is how much fuel your pump has drawn — not how long ago it was.
Hazards on. Ignition off. Ring us. It's twenty to nine outside Brindley Heath Junior School Academy, you are late, and your receipt reads unleaded — and though three miles in your BMW 3 Series feels like nothing, fuel is delivered on demand, and a frantic run asks for plenty of it.
Off the forecourt, receipt read, a couple of hundred yards, left near Kinver Sports & Community Association. For a diesel Dacia Duster whose motor has turned, that's about the best version there is. Ring us, and let the vehicle stand with the ignition alone. Short helps, really — but a start is a start and a drive is a drive, and the fuel filter has had thinned fuel through it, and so has your pump. Which is why the lines get cleaned and not just the tank drained.
A car you collected two days ago gets driven further before anyone sees anything, which is the hire and courtesy problem in one sentence — and how far it went is what settles the quantity of petrol reaching your injectors. Nothing slapdash about the mistake itself: a modern diesel filler neck takes the smaller petrol nozzle with almost no resistance, so unfamiliar locations see most of these. Phone us from wherever you are, near Kinver Miniature Railway or not, and we'll head to the Ford Kuga.
On the forecourt: removing petrol from a diesel
A good chunk of this work is finished at the pump, because that is where it mostly begins. We operate on garage forecourts routinely, with the site's agreement, so if you are still at the nearest petrol station that's usually where this drain gets done.
Before the motor has fired — the forecourt is the only location the mistake ends up spotted. Our engineers can still sort it out where it stands, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a private drive or in a lay-by, the car has been fired up and driven there, and that sucked fuel through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure pump, all the way from that tank. None of that is a catastrophe, though the flush then has to go past that tank to the lines and the fuel filter, and the few seconds between reading your receipt and going for the keys are what settle that.
Roll it out of the way if the staff offer, and they normally will. The next driver gets past the petrol pump, and that's worth doing. Four vehicle lengths isn't worth the risk.
Service in Stourton
Prestwood, Dunsley, Kinver, Lawns Wood, Whittington — all of them on our journeys that take us across to Stourton as well, a village.
Not on this list? It says nothing. The names above are simply the closest few, and nearly all towns around Staffordshire have a page of their own somewhere on this site. Close to a border, or somewhere your phone misreads? Call us and ask rather than presuming.
The map is the area the page spans. All of it is ground we work: a kerbside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You do not bring your vehicle anywhere.
Stourton: broken down where you stopped
A chance to pull in somewhere suitable does not come to everyone. Hazards going at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge on Cote Lane since you noticed after setting off — we take that call often enough that it's the ordinary kind.
Safe there? Stay beside it. Not fine? Climb out and away from it. Do not restart the motor to limp the vehicle somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is drawing that mixture further into the fuel system. We will bring our van to an awkward place without any bother, and for the car that is far better than driving on.
Some miles on petrol in a diesel: now what?
Here is where your M5 comes in — under 10 miles from Stourton. A loss of power, a lumpy idle, smoke: those are the signs when they appear, rather than a clean stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will usually get you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong at all.
Take the first exit that is safe, stop there, and don't restart the vehicle to move it. It changes what we bring, so mention it when you phone: on a longer drive — anything approaching the under 10 miles to the closest city — assume the petrol has been through your filter, your pump and the injectors.

What we do when we arrive with you in Stourton
- Our engineers ask first, price after. What got in? How much? Has the motor run? Those answers alter what the work actually is.
- Out goes the tainted mixture.
- What is left in the fuel system shouldn't be what created the trouble, and so your fuel lines get cleaned and the fuel filter cleaned.
- Clean diesel goes in, and then your system gets bled.
- Once it's fired up, our engineers make sure it runs properly on fresh diesel.
That has it ready to pull away. All of it is done where the vehicle is, so it never has to go to a garage, and when it has been spotted quickly, permanent damage is very rare.
AdBlue in your diesel tank by mistake, around Stourton?
The issue isn't the same, though the opening rule is — do not fire it up — if what went in was AdBlue rather than petrol. Petrol weakens your diesel and strips the lubrication the system depends on. AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with the diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus deposits.
Both are ours. There's a separate Stourton page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.
What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain costs around Stourton
One figure wouldn't be honest here, because this is not one job. These are the things that shift it:
- Has it been run or driven? Nothing else counts for as much.
- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, weighed against how much the tank takes.
- Which went in: petrol or AdBlue.
- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there's safe for a technician.
The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back clear instead of as a range. Car at home, going nowhere, nothing pressing about it — is ideal for that.
Petrol in diesel queries from Stourton motorists
Fuel drains on a Stourton petrol station forecourt
A large part of this work happens there, so yes. Agreement from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like BP is somewhere we are frequently, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the phone and you'll hear whether working there is possible.
How much petrol is too much for a diesel?
It rests on the proportion instead of the litres, and much more on whether your motor has run. A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct scenarios, definitely. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether your fuel system has had that blend drawn through it.
Already driven it with petrol in the diesel? Now what?
Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that. Driving moves the trouble along — out of the tank, into your pump and injectors. Drivers fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly useful thing left to you isn't restarting the car.
Will a fuel drain void my warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain and flush done to a proper standard, which is no change at all. Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one, which is another good reason to leave it switched off.
Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?
No. It belongs to a separate issue from a different era, and petrol has thinned something no oil of that kind puts back. Later on? Still petrol in your tank, and a pump that has to put up with the stuff.
A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — essential?
No. We drain and clean the car wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a dealership.
You, and your vehicle, still together?
Keep the car turned off.
Already driven it? Then stop somewhere safe, switch off, and let it remain that way. Cold and stationary, a motor is in the best place available — and drivers fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.
