Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Walcote?
Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, across Walcote and the remainder of Leicestershire. The very first thing to do is not to turn on the engine. While the engine has not turned over and the petrol is still in the tank, a fuel drain is almost always all it takes, and the following few minutes decide that, not how much was put in. Just one call our way will be plenty: we can tell you what happens next. Make this straight away.
Petrol in a diesel: what to try first
- Don't start the car — and never trust it when it runs. Here is the part people get wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. A petrol engine filled with diesel generally just can't run, so the person stops and the wear halts with them. A diesel given petrol typically starts, idles and pulls away just fine for a few miles. It's not okay. It's eating into your fuel system while you drive.
- Two jobs, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps your injection pump and injectors greased. Petrol only handles the one. Which is why the car's ignition is left off also — turn it on and you frequently prime that system, and that is petrol leaving the tank for exactly those parts.
- Never tip diesel on top to weaken it. A diesel fuel system won't tolerate petrol by percentage in the way that guidance suggests, and topping up gets rid of nothing — it simply gives you a fuller tank of the same blend. The grade makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.
- Stay put if it's wise to. Hazards on, engine off, keep the car. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on The Nook, anywhere — a difficult place for us beats a started engine, and nothing is quicker for us to deal with than a vehicle that never shifted.
- Check where you are before calling. A postcode beginning LE17 4, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise our van circles rather than showing up.
- Three details decide the full job: the liquid you put in, the approximate amount involved, and if it has been turning since. Our number is 0333 366 0103.
Clearing petrol from the diesel at the forecourt
Pumps are where this work mostly begins, and where a good portion of it ends. Our technicians work on station forecourts all the time, with the owner's agreement, and so if you're still at Gulf that is generally where the drain takes place.
At a garage, the mistake gets halted with your engine never run, and no place else does that. We can still put it right where it is, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, the car has been switched on and moved there, and that sucked fuel through the filter then into your high-pressure pump, right from the tank. None of that is a catastrophe, but the flush then has to reach past the tank to the lines and your filter, and the few seconds between reading the receipt and reaching for your key are what determine that.
Away from the pump, the next motorist can get past — so yes, let the staff help you push the car. Worth doing. Shifting the car four bays doesn't merit firing it.
Every start primes that fuel system and pulls more of that mixture out of that tank and towards your pump — which is why a vehicle shunted twice into a better space has silently grown into a bigger job than one left just where it stopped. So where we can't work next to your diesel Skoda Octavia, our technicians roll the car without starting it. None of that is pedantry about a few seconds of running. Car parks like the one outside ALDI our technicians visit often, and the fuel is seldom the tricky part: that bay is. Motors either side, a trolley shelter behind, occasionally a height barrier at the way in determining if a technician can reach you at all. Tell us how boxed in you are, and which way the car faces.
Three replies determine much of the work: what went in, approximately how much, and whether the motor has run since. We ask for them when we reach the vehicle in the car park at The Black Horse. Then the contaminated blend comes out of that tank, the lines are flushed, and where your Ford Focus has a serviceable filter, it comes off. Once clean diesel is in and the fuel system bled, we start the engine and make sure it runs properly before you drive away.
None of that is your engine failing. That's the part worth hearing, and it is why the usual Thornborough Spinney call ends better than it sounds: a diesel Mercedes C-Class drives out there without complaint, comes back with the power gone, the idle lumpy and perhaps a little smoke, and the cause is your fuel no longer behaving like diesel. Diesel has to be thick enough to seal the close-fitting components it runs through; petrol dilutes it; and a diesel injection system is hydraulic as much as chemical, needing the fuel to hold pressure rather than only to burn. So pressure that should build and stay built leaks past clearances, delivery shows up poorer and later and less even than built, and all of that stops once the fuel is put right.
About as well as this goes, once the engine has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and your diesel Dacia Duster left near Walcote Memorial Hall barely two streets on. Ring us, and leave the vehicle off. A short hop does truly help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, and so the filter and your pump have had diluted fuel through them — hence flushing your lines instead of only emptying that tank.
Rattling? Ragged idle? White smoke, throttle gone soft? That is your misfilled BMW 1 Series, a diesel, saying what's wrong with it. Stop wherever you happen to be, maybe close to St Leonard, and leave the restarting alone.
Coverage near Walcote
Walcote is a village, and so our technicians head out to the town and to the places near it on the same runs: Misterton, Lutterworth, Kimcote, Cotesbach and South Kilworth.
Not on the list? That tells you nothing. The places above are simply the nearest few, and nearly all towns across Leicestershire have a page of their own somewhere on this site. Call us and enquire rather than assuming — boundaries particularly, and anywhere the satnav can misread.
The map outlines the area this page covers. We operate by the road, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks across all of that, and the vehicle never needs to come to us.
Walcote: broken down wherever you parked
Not everybody gets the chance to pull over somewhere safe. Set off, then twigged? Finished up by the verge on Lutterworth Road, or stuck in some lay-by with the hazards going? That is a routine call here. Not a rare one.
Fine where you are? Stay by it. Not safe? Climb out and clear of it. It will often oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that's the catch: restart the vehicle to reach somewhere better and the mix goes further into the system with every mile covered. Carrying on does the car far more harm than a van heading out to an inconvenient spot, and that's no problem for us.
Already driven it? Petrol in a diesel after some miles
This is where your M1 comes in — under 3 miles from Walcote. It will often take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it's some smoke, an uneven idle and power falling away — not a clean stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.
The first safe junction is the one to take. Switch off there, and leave the restarting alone. Long trip? Anything close to the under 15 miles to the closest city and you should presume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of that got to by the petrol. Say that on the phone, as it alters what goes in the van.

Walcote is also relatively close to London, being about 79 miles northwest of the capital.
What follows when our engineers arrive with you in Walcote
- The replies change the work, which is why our technicians ask before pricing: what went in, how much of it, and if your engine has run.
- The tainted mixture is drawn out of the tank.
- Our technicians clean your fuel lines and clean the filter, so what is left in the system is not what caused the trouble.
- Priming follows, once clean diesel is in.
- Once it's turned on, our technicians make sure it runs properly on clean diesel.
From that point, you are ready to drive away. All of this is done where the vehicle is, so it never has to go to a garage, and when it has been caught early, long-term damage is very unusual.
A distinct matter: AdBlue in a diesel tank around Walcote
AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — your motor remains off — while this problem under it's a distinct one altogether. Thinned diesel, and no protection left for your fuel system that relies on it. That's petrol. Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that brings corrosion and residue.
AdBlue removal in Walcote has a page of its own with the detail on it, including why it is often the more serious of the two. Our engineers cover both.
Walcote pricing for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain
One price would not be fair here, as this is not one job. These are the things that change it:
- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.
- How much of the wrong fuel got in, against how much your tank holds.
- AdBlue or unleaded, whichever got in.
- Whether a technician can safely get to your vehicle and work on it, which depends on where the vehicle is.
A clear answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: the car, the quantity, and if it has run. Not pressing, with the car at home and going nowhere? Then works.
Petrol in diesel: frequent questions around Walcote
I'm on a forecourt around Walcote. Can you drain it on the spot?
A big portion of this work takes place there, so yes. We visit Esso and the other forecourts nearby routinely, with the owner's permission — tell us which one you're at when you ring and we'll tell you whether our technicians can work there.
How much petrol is too much for a diesel?
Ratio settles it instead of litres — and more than either, whether the motor has run. A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different scenarios, certainly. Either way, the work required comes down to one thing, which is whether the system has had that mixture sucked through it.
I put petrol in my diesel and drove the car. What next?
Turn off somewhere safe, then keep it that way after you stop. Driving is what moves the trouble from that tank into your pump and injectors — but it is recoverable a lot more frequently than motorists assume, and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart it.
Will a fuel drain void my warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a proper standard, which is no change at all. A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.
Two-stroke oil in that tank, and then home?
No. It belongs to a separate issue from a different era, and petrol has diluted something no oil of that kind puts back. Petrol remains in that tank later on, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.
Main dealers and petrol in a diesel
No. We drain and flush the vehicle wherever it is, so there is no need to take it to a main dealer.
Is your vehicle still with you?
Your engine stays off.
Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, turn off, then let the car remain that way. A stationary, cold motor is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from much more regularly than drivers fear.
