Woodland View: Petrol in a Diesel Car? Here Is What Happens
Stop, and keep your engine off — not on, and not for a moment to move the vehicle. Has not been run? Then petrol in a diesel tends to be a straightforward drain-and-flush job wherever your vehicle has stopped — and no other factor decides that as much as the next few minutes do. Anywhere you are in Woodland View, this is the order things run from here.
Petrol in a diesel, motor off — the first minute
In this sequence, and before everything else:
- Take the keys out. Even your ignition by itself can prime the system, drawing petrol out of the tank to precisely the components it harms, and so leave it off wholly.
- Do not top it up with diesel. Adding diesel removes nothing. You end up with a bigger tank of the same mix.
- Hazard lights on. If you are at all close to moving traffic, make your car simple to see before you do anything else.
- Off the pump by hand. At a forecourt, ask the attendants to help you push the vehicle clear of the pump. Do not fire it up to move it, however short the way.
- Which fuel, and about how much? The receipt answers both, and that's where our questions start. Do not bin it.
If you were still on the move when you noticed, stop somewhere sensible rather than pushing on for the services — on the M1, under 5 miles from Woodland View, that means the next junction. Step one follows.
The fork in every Woodland View fuel drain: has it run yet?
What happens after this rests on one answer, and only one.
Not run, not even once:
- Only that tank has petrol in it so far.
- Where your car sits is usually where the work happens: a drain, then a flush.
- No place is better, and it's why the first step matters so much.
If it's been started, even for a second:
- Petrol has been drawn from your tank, past your filter and into the fuel lines.
- A longer run carries it all the way to your high-pressure pump and your injectors.
- The farther it went, the larger the job — your lines, the fuel filter, and now and then more besides.
Petrol does not lubricate. Diesel does, protecting your high-pressure pump and injectors as it flows through, which is why the line falls where it does. A tank of petrol, left alone, hurts nothing. Petrol being pumped is grinding down the parts that shift the car.
Woodland View, petrol in a diesel: have these ready before you call
A little planning is the difference between a van that finds you and a van that goes round.
- Where you have stopped. A postcode starting S6 5 is the best place to start.
- Wherever you have parked, the road's name is useful — whether that's Rivelin Park Road or somewhere else — and so does the name of a car park.
- Or the landmark. A car park is quicker to find by what it serves, such as the one at Lidl.
- That it is a diesel, plus the make and model of your car.
- Which went in counts: AdBlue is a separate job from petrol, plus Woodland View has a page just for that. So tell us.
- About how much — in litres from the receipt, or by how long the nozzle was in.
- The mileage it covered, and how hard, if it has run at all.
- Sort who has the car ahead of when our engineers arrive: some hire and company agreements want the owner to authorise this work, and that is faster first.
Phone 0333 366 0103 once you've got that together — or, if your car is at home, going nowhere, use .
Whilst you wait for a fuel drain around Woodland View
The wait is where well-intended help does the harm. Stick to these.
- Your safety comes before your car. Somewhere dangerous? Get clear of the traffic then wait away from it. Fine where it is? Stay with it.
- No one starts it. Not a passer-by being helpful, not to check it is all right, not to roll the car a few yards.
- Anything from the boot, oil meant for two-strokes or injector cleaner: no additive lifts the petrol.
- Draining it yourself is not the answer: a can of siphoned petrol on a verge is a danger, and your fuel beyond the tank stays where it is anyway.
- Not for your radio, not for the windows: the ignition stays off.
When our van gets there: your fuel drain, step by step
- First, three questions: which fuel was put in, the volume, and has it run? Those answers decide the job, so the price follows them.
- Your tank is cleared. The polluted mixture comes out of that tank.
- Flushing the fuel lines comes next, because a vehicle that ran has petrol past your tank, in your lines themselves.
- Cleaned, or changed if the car has a workable one: the filter is dealt with next.
- Fresh diesel in, and your system primed.
- Our technicians fire it up only after fresh diesel has gone in and primed your system, then make sure that it's running smoothly.
The vehicle has new diesel running through it before we leave. When it has been noticed soon, long-term damage is very uncommon, and the vehicle returns to normal driving straight away.
Woodland View, after your fuel drain: back on the road
- Started on fresh diesel, it needs nothing special of you. Just drive normally.
- Give the first miles your attention. Smoke appearing, a warning light coming on, the idle going lumpy or your throttle stumbling: pull over then call us back.
- The work may come up later with a hire firm, an insurer or a fleet manager. Hold on to the paperwork.
- The handle's colour is not the thing to go by next time — the label on the petrol pump is.
