Petrol in Diesel

The Next Steps, in Order: Petrol in a Diesel Car in Ynysddu

Not for a moment, and not for moving it: your engine remains off. Stop there. Cleared then flushed, right where it sits: that is generally all an unrun diesel with petrol in it takes. Whether it remains that simple rests on the minutes ahead more than on anything else. Below is the sequence from this point, wherever in Ynysddu you happen to be.

Engine off: minute one with petrol in a diesel

In this sequence, all before everything else:

  • Ignition off, keys out. Switched on, your ignition can prime the system — and priming is what moves petrol out of your tank towards the parts it harms.
  • No diesel on top. More fuel in removes none of that petrol — it only leaves you with extra of the same blend.
  • Close to passing traffic? Then your hazards go on before anything else, so the car is simple to see.
  • Off the petrol pump by hand. At a forecourt, ask the staff to help you push the car clear of the petrol pump. Don't crank it to move it, however short the distance.
  • Hold on to the till receipt. It says which fuel got in and about how much, which is the first thing we will ask.

Still driving when you noticed? Come off the M4 at the next exit if that is where you are, under 10 miles from Ynysddu, and stop somewhere safe and not pressing on to the services. Then start at step one.

Each Ynysddu fuel drain starts here: has the engine run?

Everything after this stage rests on one answer.

Not run, not even briefly:

  • Just your tank has petrol in it for now.
  • Draining and flushing, on the spot, is normally all of it.
  • No position is better, and it's why the first stage counts so much.

If it has been started, even for a moment:

  • Petrol has been pulled out of your tank, through the filter and into your lines.
  • On a longer run it has reached the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors.
  • Lines flushed, your filter sorted, and sometimes more: the job expands as the distance does.

Diesel keeps the high-pressure pump and the injectors lubricated as it goes through them. Petrol offers them nothing, and that's why the line is drawn there. In the tank, left alone, petrol harms nothing. Petrol being pumped is grinding down the components that shift the car.

Ynysddu, petrol in a diesel: have these ready before you call

A van that circles against a van that finds you: a little preparation is the difference.

  • The ideal start is a postcode — one beginning NP11 7 — for where you have stopped.
  • Wherever you have pulled up, the road's name is useful — whether that's Commercial Street or somewhere else — and so does the name of a car park.
  • What a car park serves is the easiest way to find it, and so mention the landmark — like the one at Sainsbury's.
  • Say what your car is — make, model — and check it's diesel.
  • Petrol or AdBlue? Say which. They are different jobs, and AdBlue has a separate Ynysddu page.
  • Roughly how much — in litres from the receipt, or by how long the nozzle stayed in.
  • Has it run? If so, say how far it got, and the way it was driven.
  • Whose motor it is. Some hire or company agreements want the owner to approve the work, and that's easier settled before our technicians get there than after.

Ring 0333 366 0103 then. Writing to works as well if it can wait, with your car parked at home, going nowhere.

Ynysddu fuel drain on its way? While you wait

Hold to these: well-intended help causes the harm during the wait.

  • Where the car has stopped settles where you wait. Somewhere exposed: away from it, clear of the traffic. Safe: with it. Either way, safety ahead of the car.
  • No one — however kind — starts it, whether to see if it runs or to shift the car a short way.
  • None of that takes the petrol back out — not two-stroke oil, not injector cleaner, not anything from the boot. So no additives.
  • Clearing it yourself is not the answer: a can of siphoned petrol on a verge is a danger, and the fuel beyond that tank remains where it is anyway.
  • Not for the radio, not for the windows: your ignition remains off.

Van arrived? The fuel drain, one step at a time

  • The quote comes after three queries, not before them — what got in, how much, and whether it has run — because those answers set this job.
  • That tank is emptied. The contaminated mix comes from the tank.
  • Petrol that has moved beyond the tank travels in the lines if it ran, and the lines are purged to shift it.
  • The filter is dealt with. Cleared, or changed where the car has a usable one.
  • Your system is primed on clean diesel.
  • Starting the car. Once your system is bled with new diesel, we start the engine and confirm it runs smoothly.

Till it runs on clean diesel, our engineers stay with it. It's very uncommon for a car caught quickly to be left with lasting damage, and normal use resumes at once.

Once the fuel drain is done: driving around Ynysddu a second time

  • Drive normally. There's nothing unusual to do once it has been started on clean fuel.
  • The first miles are the test. A dash warning, exhaust smoke, a rough idle or a flat throttle is your cue to stop and call us once more.
  • An insurer, a fleet manager or a hire company may ask what was done, and so keep the paperwork.
  • Next time, trust the petrol pump's label rather than the colour of its handle.
