Petrol in a Diesel Audi TT? Start With the Tank

How much petrol there currently is in the blend depends on the tank, so its capacity is well worth finding out early when you've put petrol in a diesel Audi TT. We list the tank size for every version of the Audi TT which we have figures for here, along with the motors it was sold with.

When it has occurred, the same advice holds whatever the figure happens to be. Keep your engine off and phone Petrol in Diesel, and we will come to empty the vehicle where it stands.

Each version in turn: Audi TT fuel tank capacity

The Audi TT carries the same diesel tank on every version we have figures for, and it takes 60 litres.

Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro60 litres

Does a small volume of wrong fuel in your Audi TT matter?

Whatever diesel is still inside your tank mixes with the wrong fuel in your Audi TT, and how full it was when you filled up determines how much of the blend is petrol. When a couple of litres of petrol are put into a tank sitting close to empty, they make up a much larger share of what your engine would draw. Added to a nearly full tank of up to 60 litres, the same amount is only a minor share of the whole.

Drivers commonly ask how much petrol is too much. Starting your engine is what moves the mixture from the tank and through the pump and the fuel injectors, so the more useful thing to find out is whether it's run.

With a modest quantity, a drain is normally all your TT needs, and whatever the proportion, having it drained is the safe thing to do.

Engines used in the diesel TT

When you call, it is useful to have read the badge first, as the name of the version on it shows us which engine your TT has.

The badges on all diesel versions of the TT within our data are TDI.

The motors are all 2.0 litres.

There are Quattro TT versions in the figures as well.

Ring anyway if you are not certain which version you have, and we will figure it out with you.

When there's AdBlue in a diesel Audi TT

AdBlue alters what the capacity of the tank means. The fuel pump draws its fuel from the base of your tank, and that is where AdBlue sinks, and so even a small amount gets into your fuel line. If you have got AdBlue in a diesel Audi TT, your diesel around it doesn't dilute it, as AdBlue is largely water and does not mix with it.

Nothing in AdBlue combusts, and the pump gets no lubrication from it. When its water evaporates, urea is left in the fuel lines and the fuel filter as crystals, and the metalwork next to it is eaten into.

Some diesel vehicles keep AdBlue in a second tank with a dedicated filler, frequently next to the diesel one under the same fuel flap. On any TT with an AdBlue filler, a blue cap usually shows it, and that cap accepts a slimmer nozzle than the diesel one.

Fuel drain on your Audi TT

Whatever size the tank is on your version, a fuel drain on your Audi TT clears all of that, right where the car is parked. First the contaminated fuel is pumped out, then the fuel filter and fuel lines are purged. After filling up with fresh diesel, we prime the fuel system and fire up the engine.

It doesn't matter whether your TT is sitting at the forecourt or parked on your driveway. Clean diesel is what it runs on when this drain is finished, and so you can take it away.

What AdBlue removal from a diesel Audi TT involves

AdBlue removal from a diesel Audi TT begins with emptying your tank totally, because AdBlue collects at the bottom instead of blending in. We also flush the lines and your filter through once the motor has been started, changing the fuel filter where it needs changing.

This is about AdBlue that has got into your diesel tank. It's not removing or switching off the AdBlue system on the car.

The price of a fuel drain on the Audi TT

The same model can make for very different call-outs, which is why we do not list a fixed price. The biggest factor is whether anybody has started or driven the TT. Then there is the amount that was put in against how big your tank is, which fuel it was, and where your car is at the moment.

Phone with those facts so we can let you know what the job will need.

Tank queries about petrol in a diesel Audi TT

What's the fuel tank capacity of the Audi TT?

The same tank is used on each version in our data, taking 60 litres.

Does petrol matter less with a bigger tank?

A larger tank means a couple of litres make up less of the total, but that petrol is still there and still reaches the pump as soon as the engine runs. With your TT turned off, a drain removes all of that.

Do you cover more than one diesel TT?

Your boot badge shows which of the 2 diesel versions of the TT in the table above is yours, since we hold data for each.

Which fuels, other than diesel, would be wrong fuel in my Audi TT?

Anything except diesel in the diesel tank, meaning petrol of any grade, super unleaded too, or AdBlue intended for its own dedicated tank.

Will you drain the Audi TT where it is?

Yes. We travel to your car, whether it is still on the station forecourt or parked at home, so it doesn't need to be moved or switched on.
