A couple of litres of wrong fuel in your Citroen Xsara, and what they amount to
The proportion of petrol rests on how full your tank was before you refuelled. That is because wrong fuel in your Citroen Xsara blends with whatever diesel is already in there. In a tank that holds up to 60 litres, a couple of litres of unleaded added to an almost full tank makes a minor share of the total, and the same few litres going into a tank that was almost empty forms a far greater part of what the engine would pull through.
Often, people want to know at what point that petrol becomes too much. Running your engine is what takes the mixture out of your tank and through the pump and the injectors, and so the more helpful point to know is if it has run.
Whatever the share, the sensible course is to have it drained, and with a modest amount a fuel drain is generally all your Xsara needs.
The engine options in the diesel Xsara
The version name on the badge shows us which engine your Xsara has, and so it's worth checking before you call.
The badges on the diesel versions of the Xsara in our data are HDi and TD.
The HDi badge turns up across more of them than any other, while the Xsara Estate 1.9 TD X is one that has the TD badge instead.
The motors range from 1.4 litres on the Xsara 1.4 HDi to 2.0 litres in the Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDi 110 FAP.
The figures additionally include Estate and Coupe versions of the Xsara.
If you are not sure which version you own, phone anyway then we'll figure it out with you.
AdBlue in a diesel Citroen Xsara
With AdBlue, fuel tank size works differently. If you have AdBlue in a diesel Citroen Xsara, your diesel surrounding it doesn't weaken it, since AdBlue is largely water and does not mix with diesel. It sinks to the base of the tank, which is where the fuel pump pulls from, so even a small quantity reaches your fuel line.
Nothing in AdBlue burns, and your pump gets no protection from it. Once its water dries out, urea is left in your lines and the filter as crystals, and the metalwork next to it corrodes.
Some diesel cars hold AdBlue in a separate tank with its own filler, frequently alongside the diesel one under the same flap. Where your Xsara has an AdBlue filler, its cap is normally blue and accepts a slimmer nozzle than the diesel filler.
What a fuel drain on your Citroen Xsara takes
Carried out where your car is sitting, a fuel drain on your Citroen Xsara clears the whole tank, whatever size the tank is on your version. Fresh diesel goes in after the tainted fuel gets pumped out and the fuel lines and the filter are cleaned, and then your system is primed and your engine fired up.
It makes no difference whether your Xsara is still at the station forecourt or parked on your driveway. Fresh diesel is what it runs on when the drain is done, so you can take it away.
AdBlue removal from a diesel Citroen Xsara, explained
AdBlue removal from a diesel Citroen Xsara begins with clearing your tank entirely, since AdBlue collects at the bottom rather than blending in. An engine that has been run means rinsing the fuel filter and lines through as well, plus changing the filter if it needs it.
This covers AdBlue that has gone into your diesel tank. It is not taking out or switching off the AdBlue system on the vehicle.
How the price of a fuel drain on the Citroen Xsara is worked out
We do not publish a fixed price, as two call-outs on the same model can be rather dissimilar. Whether the Xsara has been run or driven changes it most. After that it depends on how much got in compared with the fuel tank size, whether petrol or AdBlue was put in, and your car's location.
Those details are what we need to explain what this work involves. Phone with them to hand.
