Tank Sizes and Petrol in a Diesel Jaguar XF
How much petrol there currently is in that mix depends on your tank, so its capacity is well worth knowing early when you've put petrol in a diesel Jaguar XF. We set out the tank size on every version of the Jaguar XF which our figures cover here, along with the motors it came with.
Whatever the figure, the advice is the same after it has occurred. As soon as you switch your engine off then phone Petrol in Diesel, we'll come out and empty the vehicle where it sits.
Each version in turn: Jaguar XF fuel tank capacity
Versions of the Jaguar XF differ, and so the diesel tank holds anywhere from 69 to 70 litres depending on yours.
Within our figures, the XF 2.7 Diesel has the smallest fuel tank and the XF Sportbrake 3.0 V6D 500 the biggest.
As a comparison, 70 litres is the figure for the XF Sportbrake 2.2D.
| Version | Fuel tank |
|---|---|
| Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel | 69 litres |
| Jaguar XF 2.7 Diesel | 69 litres |
| Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 Diesel | 69 litres |
| Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 Diesel S | 69 litres |
| Jaguar XF Sportbrake 2.2D | 70 litres |
| Jaguar XF Sportbrake 3.0 V6D 500 | 70 litres |
| Jaguar XF Sportbrake 3.0 V6D 600 | 70 litres |
Wrong fuel in your Jaguar XF: what a few litres means
The share of petrol rests on how full the tank was before you filled up. That is because wrong fuel in your Jaguar XF blends with whatever diesel is already in it. Up to 70 litres fit into your tank. Topping up an almost full one with a few litres of unleaded leaves only a small share of petrol in the whole, whereas the same amount in an almost empty tank is far more of what the engine would take in.
People commonly want to know how much petrol counts as too much. It's more helpful to check if the engine has run, as a running engine is what moves that mixture from your tank and through your pump and the injectors.
With a modest volume, a fuel drain is usually all your XF needs, and whatever the share, getting it emptied is the safe course.
Engines fitted to the diesel XF
When you call, it is useful to have checked the badge first, as the name of the version on it shows us which engine your XF has.
The XF 3.0 V6 Diesel S has the biggest engine at 3.0 litres, and the XF 2.2 Diesel the smallest one at 2.2 litres.
Not knowing which version you own doesn't need to stop you. Phone all the same, and we'll figure it out with you.
When there is AdBlue in a diesel Jaguar XF
With AdBlue, tank size works differently. AdBlue is largely water and doesn't mix with diesel, so with AdBlue in a diesel Jaguar XF, your diesel around it does nothing to weaken it. As it settles to the base of the tank, where the fuel pump draws from, even a tiny quantity reaches the fuel line.
Nothing in AdBlue burns, and your pump gets no protection from it. After its water evaporates, urea is left in the fuel lines and your filter as crystals, and the metalwork around it corrodes.
On some diesel vehicles, AdBlue has a second tank of its own, and its filler frequently sits alongside the diesel filler under the same fuel flap. If your XF has an AdBlue filler, the diesel nozzle is the larger of the two, and the AdBlue cap is normally blue.
How a fuel drain on your Jaguar XF works
The whole tank is cleared in a fuel drain on your Jaguar XF, however large it is in your version, without the car moving from where it sits. First the contaminated fuel is pumped out, then the fuel filter and fuel lines are rinsed. After filling up with clean diesel, we re-prime the system and fire up your engine.
Whether your XF is still on the station forecourt or left on your driveway does not change a thing. Fresh diesel is what it runs on when the drain is done, so you can drive it away.
AdBlue removal from a diesel Jaguar XF, explained
Emptying your tank completely is where AdBlue removal from a diesel Jaguar XF begins, since AdBlue doesn't blend in and settles at the base instead. Where your engine has been started, your lines and the filter are flushed through as well, and your fuel filter is changed if needed.
AdBlue that has gone into the diesel tank is the topic here. Disabling or taking out the car's AdBlue system is not part of it.
What a fuel drain on the Jaguar XF will cost
The same model can make for very dissimilar call-outs, which is why we do not publish a fixed price. Whether the XF has been run or driven affects it most. After that it depends on how much was put in against the tank size, whether petrol or AdBlue was put in, and your car's location.
Those details are what we need to explain what this work takes. Phone with them ready.
Tank questions about petrol in a diesel Jaguar XF
How many litres is the Jaguar XF fuel tank capacity?
Between 69 and 70 litres, according to the version. You can find each one in the table above.
Does petrol matter less with a bigger tank?
In a larger tank, petrol is a smaller part of the whole, yet it hasn't gone anywhere, and it reaches the pump as soon as the motor runs. A drain removes all of it while your XF stays turned off.
How many diesel versions of the XF do you cover?
There are 7 diesel XF versions in our figures, and the name on your badge tells you which row of the table above is yours.
Is it wrong fuel in my Jaguar XF if it is not diesel?
It means anything put into your diesel tank that is not diesel, so petrol of every grade, even super unleaded, or AdBlue, which has its own separate tank.
Wherever the Jaguar XF is, can you drain the vehicle?
There is no reason to move or start your car. Whether it is left at home or still on the forecourt, we travel to it.
