What the Tank Holds: Petrol in a Diesel Mazda B-Series
Someone who has got petrol in a diesel Mazda B-Series needs to know the size of its fuel tank first, because that settles how much of what is in there is now petrol. Every version of the Mazda B-Series we hold data for is set out on this page with its tank size, and the same goes for the motors it was sold with.
The advice doesn't vary with the size once it has occurred. Phone Petrol in Diesel with your engine switched off. We will come to you and drain the car just where it stands.
How each version stacks up on Mazda B-Series fuel tank capacity
The Mazda B-Series uses the one diesel tank across each version we have data for, and it takes 70 litres.
| Version | Fuel tank |
|---|---|
| Mazda B 2500 | 70 litres |
| Mazda B 2500 Double-Cab | 70 litres |
What a couple of litres means for wrong fuel in your Mazda B-Series
Wrong fuel in your Mazda B-Series blends with whatever diesel is already in the tank, and so the proportion of your fuel that is petrol hinges on how full your tank was when you refuelled. In a tank that holds up to 70 litres, a few litres of petrol added to an almost full tank is a small part of the total, and the same few litres going into a tank which was close to empty is a far greater share of what your engine would take in.
People often want to know how much petrol counts as too much. Starting the engine is what takes the blend out of the tank and through your pump and your injectors, and so the more useful thing to know is whether it has run.
Whatever the proportion, the right thing is to get it drained, and with a small quantity a fuel drain is generally all your B-Series needs.
Diesel B-Series engines and their badges
The version name on the badge tells us which engine your B-Series has, and so it's worth checking before you phone.
Phone anyway if you are not sure which version you own, then we will work it out with you.
Tank size and AdBlue in a diesel Mazda B-Series
AdBlue alters what the capacity of your tank means. The fuel pump draws its fuel from the base of the tank, and that's where AdBlue settles, and so even a small quantity reaches the fuel lines. If you have got AdBlue in a diesel Mazda B-Series, the diesel surrounding it doesn't weaken it, as AdBlue is mostly water and doesn't blend with diesel.
As the water in AdBlue dries out, the urea left over crystallises in the lines and the fuel filter and attacks the metalwork around it, and AdBlue does not burn or give the pump any protection either.
On certain diesel vehicles, AdBlue has a second tank of its own, and its filler often sits alongside the diesel filler under the same flap. On any B-Series with an AdBlue filler, a blue cap usually marks it, and that cap accepts a narrower pump nozzle than the diesel one.
What a fuel drain on your Mazda B-Series takes
A fuel drain on your Mazda B-Series empties the entire tank, whatever its size in your version, and it is done where your car is sitting. We draw the contaminated fuel out, flush the lines and the filter, and fill up again with clean diesel ahead of re-priming the system and starting your engine.
It does not matter whether your B-Series is still on the station forecourt or parked on your drive. Clean diesel is what it runs on once the drain is done, and so you can take it away.
AdBlue removal from a diesel Mazda B-Series
With AdBlue lying at the base of the tank rather than mixed in, AdBlue removal from a diesel Mazda B-Series begins by draining your tank completely. We also rinse the fuel lines and the fuel filter through if the motor has run, replacing the fuel filter when it needs replacing.
Taking out or turning off the AdBlue system on the vehicle isn't what this covers. It's about AdBlue that has got into your diesel tank.
The cost of a fuel drain on the Mazda B-Series
We don't list a fixed price, as two call-outs on the same model can be very dissimilar. What changes it most is whether the B-Series has been started or driven, and next how much was put in relative to the capacity of your tank, whether it was petrol or AdBlue, and where your car is.
Those facts are what we need to explain what the work involves. Phone with them to hand.
Questions on your tank and petrol in a diesel Mazda B-Series
What does the Mazda B-Series fuel tank capacity come to?
It takes 70 litres, and every version we hold data for shares the same tank.
Does a larger tank make petrol less of an issue?
A bigger tank means a few litres make up less of the total, yet the petrol is still in there and still reaches the pump as soon as the engine runs. A fuel drain removes all of it while your B-Series is switched off.
Diesel versions of the B-Series: how many do you list?
We hold data for 2 diesel versions of the B-Series, so you can spot yours in the table above from the name on its badge.
Which fuels, other than diesel, would be wrong fuel in my Mazda B-Series?
It means anything put into your diesel tank that's not diesel, and so petrol of every type, even super unleaded, or AdBlue, which has its own dedicated tank.
Can you drain the Mazda B-Series wherever it is?
Yes, wherever it is. Parked at home or still at the pump, the car stays where it is and isn't started, as we come to it.
