Petrol in a Diesel Nissan NV200? Start With the Tank

Once you have put petrol in a diesel Nissan NV200, the size of its tank is one of the first things worth knowing, as it decides how much of what is in there is now petrol. Every version of the Nissan NV200 we hold figures for is on this page with its tank size, and so are the motors it came with.

The advice doesn't change with the size after it has happened. Keep your engine off then ring Petrol in Diesel, and we will come out to empty the car where it sits.

Nissan NV200 fuel tank capacity, version by version

55 litres is what the fuel tank holds on every version of the Nissan NV200 we have figures for, as they all use the same tank.

A couple of litres of wrong fuel in your Nissan NV200, and what they amount to

Wrong fuel in your Nissan NV200 blends with whatever diesel is already inside the tank, so the proportion of it that's petrol depends on how full the tank was when you refuelled. How much petrol goes to the motor rests a lot on the level in your tank. The tank takes up to 55 litres, and on a nearly full one a few litres stay a small part of the total, yet in a tank running close to empty the same few litres make up a far bigger part.

Often, people ask at what point the petrol gets to be too much. The more helpful thing to know is whether the motor has been run, since running the engine is what carries the mixture from your tank and through your pump and the injectors.

A fuel drain is the right option whatever the share, and with a modest quantity it's usually all your NV200 needs.

The engines on your diesel NV200

Your engine in your NV200 is given in the version name on the badge. Note it before you ring.

Diesel versions of the NV200 in our figures wear dCi badging.

Among the NV200 versions we have figures for are Estate ones.

Ring all the same if you're not certain which version you have, then we'll work it out with you.

When there is AdBlue in a diesel Nissan NV200

AdBlue alters what the capacity of the tank means. AdBlue is mainly water and doesn't blend with diesel, so with AdBlue in a diesel Nissan NV200, the diesel around it does nothing to thin it. As it sinks to the bottom of your tank, where the fuel pump pulls from, even a tiny volume gets into the fuel lines.

As the water in AdBlue dries out, the urea left over crystallises in your lines and your filter and attacks the metalwork next to it, and AdBlue doesn't burn or give the pump any lubrication either.

Some diesel vehicles carry AdBlue in a separate tank with its own filler, frequently next to the diesel one under the same flap. On any NV200 with an AdBlue filler, a blue cap normally shows it, and that cap takes a slimmer pump nozzle than the diesel one.

What a fuel drain on your Nissan NV200 takes

Done where the car is standing, a fuel drain on your Nissan NV200 clears the entire tank, whatever size it is on your version. Drawing out the contaminated fuel happens first, followed by a flush of your lines and the fuel filter. After that we top up with clean diesel, prime the fuel system and start your engine.

Parked at home or still at the pumps, your NV200 gets the same drain. When we finish this drain, your car is running on clean diesel and free to drive away.

How AdBlue removal from a diesel Nissan NV200 works

AdBlue collects at the bottom of your tank instead of mixing in, and so clearing it entirely is the opening step of AdBlue removal from a diesel Nissan NV200. Where your engine has been run, the lines and the fuel filter are flushed through as well, and your fuel filter is replaced if needed.

AdBlue that has gone into your diesel tank is the topic here. Switching off or taking out your car's AdBlue system is not part of it.

How the price of a fuel drain on the Nissan NV200 is worked out

There is no fixed price published here, as call-outs on one model can differ quite a lot. What changes it most is whether the NV200 has been run or driven, and beyond that how much got in against the size of the tank, whether it was petrol or AdBlue, and where the vehicle is.

Those facts are what we need to tell you what the work takes. Call with them ready.

Queries on the tank and petrol in a diesel Nissan NV200

What does the Nissan NV200 fuel tank capacity amount to?

It takes 55 litres, and every version we have figures for shares the same tank.

Does a larger tank make petrol less of an issue?

The petrol is still there in a larger tank, and still reaches your pump when the motor runs, even though a few litres form less of the whole. All of that is cleared with a fuel drain, as long as your NV200 is turned off.

How many diesel versions of the NV200 do you cover?

Your badge tells you which of the 2 diesel versions of the NV200 in the table above is yours, since we have data for each.

Which fuels, other than diesel, would be wrong fuel in my Nissan NV200?

Petrol qualifies whatever the type, super unleaded included, and so does AdBlue that was meant for its own separate tank. Everything other than diesel in your diesel tank is wrong fuel.

Wherever the Nissan NV200 is, can you drain the car?

We do. The vehicle does not need to be moved or switched on, because we come to it whether it is still at the forecourt or parked on your drive.
