Petrol in a Diesel Peugeot 806? Start With the Tank

How much petrol there currently is in that mix depends on your tank, so its size is worth checking early when you've put petrol in a diesel Peugeot 806. The tank size and the engines are listed on this page for each Peugeot 806 version which we hold data for.

The guidance doesn't vary with the size once it has occurred. With the motor kept off, call Petrol in Diesel and the vehicle can be emptied where it stands.

The Peugeot 806 fuel tank capacity on each version

80 litres is what the fuel tank takes on every version of the Peugeot 806 we hold figures for, because they all use the same fuel tank.

Peugeot 806 1.9 TD80 litres
Peugeot 806 2.0 HDi Esplanad80 litres
Peugeot 806 2.1 TD80 litres

A couple of litres of wrong fuel in your Peugeot 806, and what they mean

The share of petrol rests on how full your tank was before you refuelled. That's because wrong fuel in your Peugeot 806 mixes with whatever diesel was still in it. When a few litres of unleaded go into a tank sitting near empty, they make up a much bigger share of what the engine would draw. Added to an almost full tank of up to 80 litres, the same amount is only a small share of the whole.

Frequently, drivers want to know at what point that petrol gets to be too much. The more useful thing to find out is whether the engine has run, because starting it is what carries the mixture from your tank and through the pump and the fuel injectors.

A fuel drain is the right course no matter what the proportion, and with a modest quantity it's usually all your 806 needs.

Which engines the diesel 806 came with

The version name on the badge tells us which motor your 806 has, and so it is worth reading before you phone.

Diesel versions of the 806 in our data wear TD and HDi badges.

The TD badge shows up across more of them than any other, while the 806 2.0 HDi Esplanad is a version that wears the HDi badge instead.

At the lower end of the range is the 806 1.9 TD with 1.9 litres, and at the top is the 806 2.1 TD at 2.1 litres.

Being unsure which version you drive doesn't need to stop you. Call all the same, and we will figure it out with you.

Fuel tank size and AdBlue in a diesel Peugeot 806

Fuel tank size plays out differently with AdBlue. The fuel pump draws its fuel from the base of your tank, and that's where AdBlue sinks, so even a tiny amount reaches your fuel lines. If you have got AdBlue in a diesel Peugeot 806, your diesel surrounding it does not weaken it, since AdBlue is largely water and doesn't mix with diesel.

AdBlue doesn't burn and gives the pump no protection, and as its water evaporates, the urea left over crystallises in the fuel lines and your filter and corrodes the metalwork next to it.

The filler neck for AdBlue, on diesel cars that have it, commonly shares a fuel flap with the diesel one and feeds a separate tank. If your 806 has an AdBlue filler, the diesel pump nozzle is the bigger of the two, and the AdBlue cap is normally blue.

A fuel drain on your Peugeot 806, step by step

Done where your car is sitting, a fuel drain on your Peugeot 806 empties the entire tank, whatever size the tank is on your version. First the contaminated fuel is pumped out, then the filter and fuel lines are rinsed. After refilling with fresh diesel, we re-prime the fuel system and fire up the engine.

Still at the forecourt or parked on your driveway, your 806 can be emptied either way. After the drain is complete it's running on fresh diesel and you can take it away.

How AdBlue removal from a diesel Peugeot 806 works

AdBlue settles at the base of the tank rather than blending in, and so clearing it totally is the first stage in AdBlue removal from a diesel Peugeot 806. We also flush the lines and the filter through if the motor has been run, replacing the fuel filter when it needs replacing.

Removing or turning off the AdBlue system on your car isn't what this covers. It is about AdBlue that has gone into your diesel tank.

The cost of a fuel drain on the Peugeot 806

Two jobs on the same model can be quite dissimilar, and so we do not give a fixed price. How much was put in compared with the size of the tank, petrol or AdBlue, and the car's location all count, but whether the 806 has been driven or just started changes it most.

With those facts, we can let you know what this job will involve when you call.

Tank queries about petrol in a diesel Peugeot 806

What does the Peugeot 806 fuel tank capacity amount to?

80 litres, with every version we have figures for using the same tank.

Is petrol less of a problem in a larger tank?

That petrol is still there in a bigger tank, and still reaches the pump as soon as the engine runs, even though a few litres form less of the whole. All of that comes out with a fuel drain, as long as your 806 is turned off.

How many diesel versions of the 806 do you cover?

Our figures include 3 diesel versions of the 806, all set out in the table above, and so you can spot yours there by the name printed on its badge.

Wrong fuel in my Peugeot 806: what does that include?

Only diesel goes in the diesel tank. Petrol of every type, super unleaded too, is wrong fuel, and so is AdBlue, which goes in a tank of its own.

Will you drain the Peugeot 806 where it stands?

We do. The vehicle doesn't need to be shifted or switched on, since we come to it whether it is still on the forecourt or parked at home.
