Tank Sizes and Petrol in a Diesel Rover 200
The size of your fuel tank is among the first points to know after you have put petrol in a diesel Rover 200, as the share of what is in there that's currently petrol hinges on it. We give the tank size on every version of the Rover 200 that we have figures for on this page, plus the motors it was sold with.
Whatever the size, the advice is no different now that it has occurred. As soon as you switch the engine off then call Petrol in Diesel, we will come over to empty your car where it sits.
How each version compares on Rover 200 fuel tank capacity
On the Rover 200, the diesel tank holds 50 litres, and it is the same on each version we hold data for.
| Version | Fuel tank |
|---|---|
| Rover 220 D | 50 litres |
| Rover 220 SDi | 50 litres |
What a couple of litres amounts to with wrong fuel in your Rover 200
Whatever diesel is already inside the tank blends with the wrong fuel in your Rover 200, and how full the tank was when you refuelled sets how much of the blend is petrol. When a few litres of petrol go into a tank sitting near empty, they form a much greater share of what the engine would draw. Added to a nearly full tank of up to 50 litres, the same volume is only a small share of the total.
The quantity of petrol that is too much is something people commonly ask about. It is more useful to find out if the motor has been run, since a running engine is what moves the mixture out of the tank and through your pump and the injectors.
Whatever the share, the safe thing is to have it drained, and with a modest amount a fuel drain is generally all your 200 needs.

What goes on with AdBlue in a diesel Rover 200
With AdBlue, fuel tank size works differently. AdBlue is mostly water and does not blend with diesel, so with AdBlue in a diesel Rover 200, the diesel around it does nothing to weaken it. Because it sinks to the bottom of your tank, where the fuel pump pulls from, even a small quantity reaches your fuel lines.
Nothing in AdBlue combusts, and the pump gets no lubrication from it. When its water dries out, urea is left in the fuel lines and the filter as crystals, and the metalwork next to it is eaten into.
Certain diesel vehicles carry AdBlue in a separate tank with its own filler, commonly next to the diesel filler under the same fuel flap. Where your 200 has an AdBlue filler, its filler cap is usually blue and accepts a narrower nozzle than the diesel filler.
Fuel drain on your Rover 200
The whole tank is cleared in a fuel drain on your Rover 200, however big it is in your version, without the car being moved from where it stands. First the contaminated fuel is pumped out, then your filter and fuel lines are flushed. After refilling with clean diesel, we re-prime the system and fire up your engine.
Parked at home or still at the pump, your 200 receives the same drain. After this drain is complete it is running on clean diesel and you can take it away.
What AdBlue removal from a diesel Rover 200 involves
Draining your tank entirely is where AdBlue removal from a diesel Rover 200 starts, as AdBlue does not blend in and settles at the bottom instead. An engine that has run means rinsing the fuel filter and lines through too, and replacing your fuel filter if it needs it.
Removing or turning off the AdBlue system on the car isn't what this covers. It's about AdBlue that has gone into the diesel tank.
How the quote of a fuel drain on the Rover 200 is worked out
The same model can mean very different jobs, which is why we do not list a fixed price. What affects it most is whether the 200 has been started or driven, and beyond that how much was put in against the size of your tank, whether it was petrol or AdBlue, and where your car is.
With those details, we can let you know what this job will need when you phone.
Petrol in a diesel Rover 200: tank questions
What does the Rover 200 fuel tank capacity amount to?
50 litres, with each version we hold data for using the same tank.
Does a larger tank make petrol less of a problem?
Less of the whole is petrol when a few litres go into a larger tank, but it's still there, and running your engine still carries it to the pump. With your 200 switched off, a drain clears all of it.
How many versions of your diesel 200 are in your data?
We keep figures for 2 diesel versions of the 200, and you can spot yours in the table above from the model name on the badge.
Is it wrong fuel in my Rover 200 if it is not diesel?
Anything other than diesel in your diesel tank, meaning petrol of every grade, super unleaded too, or AdBlue meant for its own dedicated tank.
Wherever the Rover 200 is, can you drain the vehicle?
We do. Your car does not need to be shifted or switched on, since we travel to it whether it is still at the station forecourt or parked at home.
